Even though the week is already under way, new events are still being announced, including this rather unique one happening (or rather, starting & ending) at the Granite on Saturday...

Toronto Beer Week Hash – Saturday September 25, 3:00PM
Start and end at The Granite Brewery, 245 Eglinton Ave. E (at Mt. Pleasant)

Organized by The Hogtown Hash House Harriers, Toronto's drinking club with a running problem.

Cost - $10 per person. Includes beer at checks on trail and in Circle

What is Hashing?

Hashing is a primarily social event that involves enjoying good beer, colourful people and unfortunately, a bit of running or hiking. At a Hash, a trail is set by a “hare”. This is typically 5-10km and is as much an orienteering trial as it is a running trail. “hounds” (the remaining Hashers) attempt to follow this trail. The trail includes many “checks”. These checks can be points on the trails where the hounds are presented with possible new trails. They need to discover the correct one.

Another type of check, and this is the good one, is the “Beer Check”. These are stops along the way where Hashers are supplied the right type of refreshment to keep their strength up. At the end of the trail, Hashers hold “Circle” where they enjoy more beer, celebrate all of the foolish things they inevitably did on trail and sing a few songs.

Key points.

- Everyone is welcome to join, a sense of humour is recommended

- Hashing provides an opportunity to run, but is not a competitive sport. Serious runners may face ridicule.

- You do not have to be a runner, or in good shape to participate in and enjoy the Hash.

- Trail markings and tips for finding your way are explained at the beginning and there are always other Hashers willing to get lost with you.

- Trails are usually off-road as much as possible. It is not considered good form to wear new shoes.

Hashing is a worldwide tradition. Hashers come from all walks of life and are of all ages and physical conditions. However, due to the enjoyment of beer and sometimes off-colour humour, this is generally and adult activity. To learn more about Hashing, The Hogtown Hash House Harriers, and to see our regular schedule please go to www.hogtownh3.com

We welcome you to join us at any of our Hashes.

Are the shirts available for purchase at most of the venues? Volo or C'est What in particular?

We wanted to attend the writers thing at CW but an emergency at work killed that notion. So the start of TBW for us is tomorrow at Volo with Black Oak (we hope to go to Guu first, a friend bartends there.) Friday is the Fall Festival at CW and the house beers at Volo. Saturday is out at Great Lakes and the festival at CW again, both with friends who have yet to experience what the CW festival has to offer.

Tonight is Anthony Bourdain!

You can purchase shirts at C'est What, Victory Cafe, and the Granite. Some of us have t-shirts with us each night, so depending where we are (myself and John Bowden are tweeting where we'll be) you can get one off of us.

Enjoyed the TBW event at Only Cafe. We all sat out on the back patio, revelling in the warm evening air. The steaks were delicious, and the Big Rock scotch ale was excellent. It had that hint of butterscotch, lots of body.

My first visit to the Only Cafe. That area of the Danforth is certainly changing, and the Only has a great neighbourhood feel. The place was packed.

Just curious - do you know if the steaks were cooked offsite? I don't think they have a full kitchen at The Only, so I was wondering how they'd pull off a dinner.

I'd head there more often if they had a decent dinner on offer.
