"Peak" Craft Beer?

The article is OK and reflects something I have been thinking about since returning to Canada. I glossed over the comments and some were unintentionally hilarious. I found the Western Profs comments a bit misleading, as while he was happy to point out that many breweries offer fifty or more beers, it would have been fair to mention that many of these beers are likely one offs, and thus not perpetually in the market place.

I can definitely see a day where more breweries specialize in styles that their brewer excels at or that better fit their existing market. Steam Whistle comes immediately to mind.

If I really think about it, what I've seen since returning to Canada, at least at my local LCBO's, is more an oversaturation of certain styles rather than breweries. I can get all the Pale Ales and IPA's I can shake a stick at, but, as I asked about in a post a few weeks ago, I have yet to see an Ontario brewed Tripel since my return.

Perhaps there is more place for breweries like Ommegang and Unibroue.

Just random thoughts. I hope all the new breweries succeed, but history and logic says they won't.

Yes we are riding on a crest of optimism, but hopefully not many of the truly good ones will be left in the wake.

I feel as if people don't even know what they're referring to anymore when they call people a hipster, it's become some sort of catch-all for "people who do things that I don't understand". It's either that or "millenial this, millenial that". Sorry we don't all like getting blackout on a two-fer of shit beer while watchin' the footballs.

In my unprofessional opinion, rural areas with no brewery or brewpub could still be a successful... but, anyone planning to enter an urban centre like Toronto or Ottawa should quadruple-think it right now.

As a home brewer, I've been harassed for too long by people with lines like, "you should really start a brewery" or "why don't you open a brewery?" My stock answer has been that I like brewing, but not enough to do it at 6AM every day.

Now it's going to be: Sorry, I put all my money in bitcoin.

Edit: I guess you aren't supposed to start a brewery with your own money!
