Bubbas, Bombers and all that Beerspeak

Post by Belgian »

Would someone like to clarify what all these terms mean in container dimensions?

I'm pretty sure I get 'bottle' and 'stubby' - the rest I'm lost on...

Thanks

That makes sense.

also,

- does Growler = Bomber?

- Any other names? (Is a "Magnum" a 1.5 liter bottle?)

A growler is a large jug/bottle that is usually filled with fresh draught beer, generally 64oz (about 1.9L). They're more common in the US, but the Granite Brewery has been selling them for a while now.

Magnum = 1.5L
Jeroboam = 3L
Methuselah = 6L
Nebuchadnezzar = 12L

It should also be noted that "Bubba" is not an official, internationally recognized unit of beer measure. It was a marketing slogan invented by Molson a couple of years ago for their 5 litre mini-kegs of Canadian and Export.

Personally, I find it a little sacrilegious to use the term "Bubba" to refer to a mini-keg of Unibroue...
