Time for a gratuitous ratebeer-like thread for us Canadians languishing away from (or at) the office for a few days.
I can't put down that Samual Smilths Old Brewery Pale Ale myself, it's wonderfully tasty for an overpriced & pasteurized beer (he added tongue-in-cheek...)
I also pine for more Austrial Edelweisse (most of which MUST be lightstruck by now) and the Dutch Christoffel Blonde (still decent, but a fragile pilsner.)

Friday, I enjoyed a Sierra Nevada Anniversary Ale from the States. This is delicious stuff, with the nice floral hops that I like.
Saturday included a Holsten Maibock from the LCBO. Wasn't expecting much, and didn't get much. Sugary sweet.
Sunday was a very nice day with a St Ambroise Pale Ale in the early afternoon, followed by a visit to The Embassy in the late afternoon where the wife and I enjoyed a Denison's and a Church Key West Coast IPA. In the spirit of the upcoming Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse, I went a bit nuts and mixed the end of the two pints together. Not bad!
As to which beer is in store for me today - well, only the beer knows that...

So far:
Great Lakes Devil's Pale Ale
O'Hanlon's Port Stout
Rochefort 10 (in memory of Michael Jackson's love for all things Belgian)
Chimay Rouge (ditto)
Fuller's Vintage Ale
Granite's Best Bitter (picked up a growler on the way home)
Most were probably a little heavy for the weather, but hey, i'm funny that way.

Dipped into some oldies from the cellar:
- Great Divide Hercules
- Great Divide Old Ruffian
- De Dolle Oerbier
- Scotch Irish Sgt Majors
- Ecaussinnes Ultra Ambrée
- Great Divide Oaked Yeti
The Sgt Majors was on cask at the Swan in Carp. While it poured quite murky, the flavour and bittering was quite good. I had to have a second just to make sure.

Been dry since last Tuesday to tonight at 9:45pm.
Since then I started with two obligatory beers that the In Law's brought me from a trip to south western Ontario.
1. Barley Days Harvest Gold Pale Ale - extremely average ale
2. Barley Days Wind & Sail Dark Ale - very slightly better than above
I therefore finished with what I was supposed to drink to keep the peace.
After this graduated to a Southern Tier Unearthly from the Rolland and Russell shipment #2 I just picked up on Friday. Had this before but wow this was a very sharp contrast from the above.
Next onto an Orval. My favourite beer.

I've worked hard on my collection and I can almost do this (but not tonight). I have one of the 8 and the 12 Westy and few of the 6 and 8 Rochefort plus 5 cases of Rochefort 10.biegaman wrote:Nothing too great, just a side by side horizontal of all three in both the Rochefort and Westvleteren series...

the homebrew has been flowing all weekend. i have a nice 3.7% pale ale on tap that's quite nice and refreshing, and at the other end of the spectrum a big malty old ale at around 9%.
saturday i made a quick stop at black oak and picked up some summer saison and nut brown. enjoyed a little of each on saturday.
that rochefort lineup has been in my cellar for a while, so it was great to bust those out and drink them, especially beside my last bottle of our homebrewed rochefort 10 clone from '05.
thanks also to jason for the growler of grand river plowman's ale and to eric for the stone 07.07.07, and for the kurpiowski that i'm still sipping on. monday was a great day of brewing and beer sampling.
and the weekend isn't over yet, i have another holiday today. since it's also my birthday i might just have to pull out something else special from the cellar...

gotta say thanks to jan. what can you say about a guy who brings over not one, not two, but all three westvleteren beers. it was excellent to finally try the blonde and i enjoyed having the 8+12 again. thanks!biegaman wrote:Nothing too great, just a side by side horizontal of all three in both the Rochefort and Westvleteren series...

Oh, and to actually reply to the thread:
Friday:
- Holsten Maibock (LCBO)
- Chapeau Banana Lambic (LCBO, nasty)
- Rock Art Ridge Runner Barley Wine
Saturday:
- 2 large plastic cups of Budweiser at a Jays game (yum!)
- C'est What Rye
- Grand River Ploughman's Pale Ale (also at C'est What, awesome!
Sunday:
- A Duvel that I accidentally left in my freezer from the night before (didn't actually taste too bad)
- Homebrew dark ale ("AK Islington Dark")
- Mackeson Stout
Monday:
- Nothing. Went to the Ex, and after that much sun and junk food I didn't feel like adding beer to the mix.
I like these threads.
