So Peter they skipped a year on you, but I'm very glad it will be back.GregClow wrote: Westmalle Dubbel (7.00% - 330ml)
I'm down to about 1/2 a case from the 8 cases I bought from the LCBO the last time they had it in the fall of '06. Got a couple of other people addicted to it and they are missing it as well, so you should have more customers this time around.
Belgian, I agree with you on all these points. After tasting the Black Irish and the Burton Porter side by side I could definitely see the strengths in the Scotch Irish brew, and a few of the flaws in the Burton one. Oh well, the Harvey's helps make up for it. A superb beer that seemed even better after a few months (not sure how it would hold up longer term, though).Belgian wrote:The Harvey's is back - it's extremely welcome - I am guessing the Scotch Irish Black Irish Plain Porter is not returing, which is sad. Black Irish is certainly WAY better than that Burton (green apple peel tasting stuff) the dryness just ruins the body for me. I am happy if others are enjoying Burton Porter though.
The Burton is one of those few idiosyncratic beers I just find 'weird' - YMMV - the Harvey's and Black Irish are more in the same league to me. I slightly prefer the Black for its overall complexity (the finer aromatic notes) but at least the Harvey's has a similar malt profile & solid drinkability (maybe slightly sweeter on th finish.)Bobsy wrote:After tasting the Black Irish and the Burton Porter side by side I could definitely see the strengths in the Scotch Irish brew, and a few of the flaws in the Burton one. The Harvey's is also pricier, proving that it pays to support local beer.

By the way. not complaining but why are high-ABV beers always offered in huge bottles? Do they want us to get bombed?
The Rogue and esp Koningshoeven are not beers I would necessarily drink a bomber/750 of all in one go. Okay. well sometimes I would...
I bet these will be a good deal. I would expect these to be well over 20 bucks at the specialist beer bars (which usually special order them at great expense with added posterior discomfort.) We will see them for six to eight max. Get ready to stock up.

I'm not a big fan of the bomber and 750ml sizes normally but I don't mind the Rogue Hazelnut in that size even with a higher ABV. It's a really nice easy drinker.Belgian wrote:The Rogue and esp Koningshoeven are not beers I would necessarily drink a bomber/750 of all in one go. Okay. well sometimes I would...

The current 650ml Rogue Brutal Bitter is $5.95, while the Anchor Liberty (general list) is around 3.95. I'm not expecting a "good" deal on any large format Rogue bottles. Hopefully the dead-guy ale six pack will be comparable to the Brooklyn Lager pricing.Belgian wrote:I bet these will be a good deal. Five or six bucks for Rogue is not extreme, I believe some folks across the border pay more than we do, do they not?? Yes, Rogue are accused of price-gouging in the US, and yes American drinkers can have a very spoiled outlook with so much to choose from.
Anyway, vote with your wallet! If you think a beer is worth it , only then buy it. Personally I am happy to support the very existence of a great beer even if it does mean giving the brewery a few more bucks a year! Somebody like Rogue had to really give a damn in the first place to even CREATE a super-hoppy, "specialty" ESB, and I imagine they were not aiming for the (presumably) larger number of Anchor product drinkers.
Rogue must have personal pride in these more 'out there' & expensively-made beers. We are really being 'catered to' by brewers like this, and I suppose our smaller numbers could mean a bigger price.
Just my own view folks. Not trying to cause a fuss.

Or it may fall under one of these releases:Bobsy wrote:So, as per the post on Brooklyn Lager, I assume the Post Road Pumpkin may well be joining the fall release? I have my fingers crossed that the Great Lakes Pumpkin Ale will also make a return. To me, this style is in perfect harmony with the season, and I start craving it around now!
October 2008: Halloween Beers.
October 2008: Holiday Gifts - Multi-packs of assorted Beer.
And now that Grand River is bottling, perhaps they'll be doing their pumpkin offering as well!!!
