It's funny because Keep 6 has really been pushing this. Lately I've actually been craving that Garrison Pilsner we got a while back - one of the best lagers I think I've tasted. I think I start craving them around February when I get a little stouted out.Belgian wrote: Howe Sound Lager - firmly mediocre. Boring. Meh.
I'm drinking a fresh can of GLB Apocalypse Later - yummy stuff - exactly what you'd think a Double Devil's Pale Ale would be.

I was not aware. The best Dortmunder I've enjoyed is probably Andechser Spezial Helles.JeffPorter wrote:It's funny because Keep 6 has really been pushing this.Belgian wrote: Howe Sound Lager - firmly mediocre. Boring. Meh.
I'm pretty happy with the newer Creemore stuff, Grand River Galt Knife, Neustadt, and even Muskoka Lager.

I started with the Monogamy on cask. I had a different experience with it. I have had it on draft at Bellwoods before. This one I found to be a little muted compared to your experience and the draft version.cratez wrote:Different strokes I suppose. I found the cedar quite restrained, palate on the full side of medium-bodied but not syrupy, and the base beer just seemed to be a solid US IPA not unlike Smash Bomb. But it's possible that the Monogamy threw my palate off somewhat, as it was bursting with big NS hop flavours.
I can drink Smash Bomb, not often, but I can drink it. This cedar IPA was way over the top for me. I had the sample after Beau's Burnt Vanilla porter and after my meal.

Wow, a nearly flat dull Trafalgar beer? (slaps head in stunned disbelief.)
I'm having a Hacker-Pschorr Munich Gold, I just wanted a malty bavarian Helles and it is good!! Flavors of pale fruit, honey-like malts and some florals. This beer would make nice Sauer Kraut, and would be just the foil for smoked or braised south German dishes typically served with hearty sauces and a starch (dumplings, potatoes or noodles.)

you understand that spearhead is first and formost and marketing company who just happens to have chosen beer to marketTheSevenDuffs wrote:Tried the Spearhead Moroccan Brown Ale last night. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. Did they really need a unique glass for this brown ale? The could have used the same one that Hawaiian Style Pale Ale is served in. These guys spend way to much time of "marketing"...

Yeah, I have read that here a few times but seeing their special "brown ale glass" really reinforced that point.matt7215 wrote:you understand that spearhead is first and formost and marketing company who just happens to have chosen beer to marketTheSevenDuffs wrote:Tried the Spearhead Moroccan Brown Ale last night. Durham Brewery's Bombay 106.
One of my local private stores gets these rare British treats. I hated British brews for so long... now it's nice to try some good, fresh stuff. I should really buy more 1845 while it's available.
I had a 2012 Fuller's Vintage the other night. I'd say it's the hoppiest of the last decade, with a drier finish (not as much residual sweetness). I love it now, but I already taste a bit of oxidation (organic malts from a smaller maltster?). I'll age a couple to see how it goes, but I suspect it would be best to enjoy it now.

This is a regular in BC, but for some reason I always seem to overlook it and go for the latest shiny new object...Belgian wrote: I'm having a Hacker-Pschorr Munich Gold, I just wanted a malty bavarian Helles and it is good!! It really is a good drinker, here's my review from a few years ago:
A: Incredibly clear, golden yellow with a white head, ring of retention leaves hints of lace.
S: Grassy & floral, slightly steelie hops, hints of bready malt.
T: Plenty of noble hop flavour here (floral and steelie grass), but the bitterness is fairly modest, allowing a hint of caramel sweetness to come through. Love the bready, continental malt.
M: Well-attenuated, moderate body is smooth with a hint of residual sweetness.
D: A great drinker.
Why doesn't mass produced beer from the new world taste like this?
