Molson Stock Ale on draft at Loose Moose. In my opinion, the bottled beer has a characteristic light damp paper smell and is slightly acidic in aftertaste, and I found the draft the same. I wonder if it tasted like this in 1908 when the brand was devised, but in any case, I was disappointed and that's the last time for me.

Going to agree with you here. Just found it lacking in flavours outside of what the barrel contributed (and perhaps it stood out more considering the number of other [read: better] imperial stouts I've had as of late).cmadd wrote:GLB BARIS, what a milquetoast RIS. I knew it wasn't Stalin's Choice, but I didn't anticipate it being this much NOT Stalin's Choice.
I had mine last night and I must agree with you on this. It wasn't by any means bad, but the nose was much more enjoyable than the taste and it was fairly boozey. They set the bar very high with Stalin's Choice and while this was a step in the right direction it didn't hit the mark.cmadd wrote:GLB BARIS, what a milquetoast RIS. After having Stalin's Choice at cask days it really makes me wonder what their goal was with this one. Perhaps Stalin's Choice is just much more costly to produce? Who knows? Whatever the case, I'm glad I got to try and it pleased overall to see that something of this style and relative quality is showing up on LCBO shelves.

I get what you're saying, especially when comparing it to stalin's choice, but I'm hoping/confident the booziness with settle down in a year or so and those roasty notes will come through a bit more.cmadd wrote:GLB BARIS, what a milquetoast RIS. A shark on whisky is mighty risky. A shark on beer is a beer engineer.
Good, I will keep this a year instead of open it now.JeffPorter wrote:I get what you're saying, especially when comparing it to stalin's choice, but I'm hoping/confident the booziness with settle down in a year or so and those roasty notes will come through a bit more.cmadd wrote:GLB BARIS, what a milquetoast RIS. Some wood aged Impy stouts do suck a bit when new, St Ambroise for example definitely improves a notch or two left alone for a few years.
(Tho' no guarantees ever, I guess.)
