2013 St Ambroise RIS.

don't really get any bourbon, and not much chocolate. Just a whole lot of burnt/bitter/charred flavour

The Double \tempest will do that for ya!

I'm hoping so! Should have my bottles in the next little while and I am really looking forward to trying it...

Completely agree. Faint bourbon, if at all.

Beer Academy Kolsch Style Blonde Ale: I put comments in a separate review in the Beer Reviews section.

Beer Academy Dunkel Weiss: (bottled version as the one above). Not a success, in my view, with a harsh yeast taste that seems Belgian-like despite the South German style presumably sought. Needs more work, IMO.

Nicklebrook Barrel Aged Barley Wine - on draft at Volo yesterday (I may not have the name exactly right). Rich beer with a touch (not too much) of wood flavour and no oxidation notes. High strength so I only had 5 ounces. I could see though a half pint sipped slowly as the sole beer of the session. Excellent effort.

boneshaker from the can. not enjoying this too much. mostly pine and malts, not as fruity as i'd like it to be

edit: is this normal for an unfiltered ipa?

Quick correction: that first class oak aged barley wine mentioned in my last note (tasted at Volo on draft) was a Great Lakes brewing, not Nicklebrook.

Also tried recently, Tiger lager - a good refresher with a natural beer taste, and Boneshaker on draft which lives up to its name! About that shot of the canned one with particulate matter, every yeast looks a bit different and I would think it is just the lack of filtration showing through. If you have more cans, I'd let them sit for a few days and then decant them, leaving the last inch or so in the bottle. I believe it should pour much clearer and may taste better too.

How was the Tsarina Katerina? Mine have pretty much shrivelled up and died, unfortunately.

Bellwoods Cat Lady....

Hmm, I never did have that Tsarina Katerina, but remember the big fuss that was being made about it here on BT back in the day!
