Working through some beers that I've been saving (and have more of in the cellar) in order to make room for others.
- Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout (doesn't really taste like a stout to me, more like an old ale almost...)
- Bellwoods' Bounty Hunter (late 2014 batch)
- Dieu du Ciel's Aphrodisiaque (another from my Ottawa haul)

Depending on the coffee type, a base beer with notes of red berry fruit, red wine or black currant may harmonize well. I don't like every imperial to have the same cocoa, dark roast coffee, etc. We have Peche already!midlife crisis wrote:Also just having a Hitachino Nest. There is definitely a dark fruits/red wine aspect that is different for a stout. The coffee seems to come in on the finish. In any event, it is quite drinkable.
Now a Samuel Smiths Organic Pale Ale, we've known it as Old Brewery Pale until a few years back when they changed the name and made a better label.

ran through a foursome of de molen's that i got a while back from my quebec connection. Mooi & Meedogenloos, Rasputin, Hel & Verdoemenis, and capped it with a Hemel & Aarde aged in a 1972 Bruichladdich Barrel. all bottled in 2010 and tasting mighty fine. good start to an impromptu long weekend!

Had a bottle of J343MY's "Barncat Artisan Ales Janky Yuzu Saison" - described as Saison brewed with Yuzu juice & Zest. Conditioned on French oak and Ontario Chardonnay with multiple strains of brett. Dry hopped with Motueka & Nelson Sauvin. Stemmed from a sarcastic comment I made on this forum earlier this year.
EXCELLENT work J343MY. A fantastic saison, and one of the best beers I've had in recent memory.

think he left me one yesterday as well. Jeremy's a very good, creative brewer and does shit that few homebrewers or pros in Ontario have the balls to brew.liamt07 wrote:Had a bottle of J343MY's "Barncat Artisan Ales Janky Yuzu Saison" - described as Saison brewed with Yuzu juice & Zest. That sounds ridiculously good. What are the plans for Barncat?atomeyes wrote:think he left me one yesterday as well. Am I remembering correctly that Amsterdam's The Nightman Cometh was based on one of his recipes from some kind of homebrew collab competition? I think it's still my top rated Black IPA.
I'm sure he could chime in if that was indeed him, but I do fondly remember that beer as well, and it was delicious.boney wrote:That sounds ridiculously good.
