Prize Old Ale (2001) It's a bottle-conditioned old age from 2001. They have these all over Rochester, NY right now in various vintages (2001-2010) for about $5 to $6.

This one has no carbonation, and very port-like. Strong fig/date/raisin aroma taste. Goes down really smooth.

Arrogant Bastard, I believe this is an October vintage. The boasting on the label is funny, wow a beer with taste!!

I am holding on to / ageing the others in the Bastard box, particularly the oaked double bastard because I think fresh it wasn't all that balanced and could use some maturing.
I might give the Espresso another half a year or more too, given the mixed reviews of this newer beer.

The Double Bastard I will get to soon as it's pretty good.

While putting up the Xmas tree
Golden beach pale ale
Sam smiths winter welcome
Sam smiths impy stout-excellent stuff, really nice smoky undertones. It's a bit thin though, no where near the body of their oatmeal stout

Yes indeed! I enjoy every beer in the pack except for the Poire, which has an artificial / overly perfumey aroma.

I was in the mood for something Belgian yesterday following a weekend visit to New Limburg and cracked one of my last remaining Gouden Carolus Tripels from the LCBO release a couple years ago. It's about two months beyond it's best before date. Still drinking decently, but some of the flavours seem diminished and it is starting to become overly sweet tasting as tripels tend to do when they sit for so long. My advice to anyone still sitting on bottles is to drink them soon because I think it's clear that they're in decline. I'm always guilty of holding on to bottles longer than I should. I think it stems from a fear that I won't be able to get a particular beer again any time soon (or at all). Gouden Carolus is one of my favourites and I've been waiting patiently for it to return.

Cracked into my penultimate Dupont Bons Vieux on the weekend during an early Christmas dinner. Just a fantastic beer, wish I had bought more, and hoping the LCBO brings it back.

I shared one of those with Murphy a while back. It really doesn't get much better than that magnum for a beer to plop down in the middle of a dinner table. It even goes well with most foods.

Outlaw '2 Lane' Pale Ale
Maclean's Luck and Charm Oatmeal Stout

No idea if the Outlaw beer was named correctly - wasn't on Untappd and they don't appear to post a list anywhere, but it was an acceptable pale. Maclean's was delicious - best of theirs that I've had.

Mainly just really pleased to have somewhere in my small town offering something vaguely interesting!

Christmas can be fun for adults too.
Last night it was Saison Julie from Aschaffenburg, Germany and Delirium Tremens Nocturnum.
Tonight it'll be Samuel Adams Imperial Stout.

Red Racer Gingerbread Stout on a quite Christmas Eve with the family.

I liked it, but for me it's the type of beer that one is enough for the season.
