I had one of those recently and loved it! Then again, I have always preferred my IPAs hop-forward, so I guess it's just a matter of taste.boney wrote:Ballast Point/Kelsey McNair/Stone San Diego County Session Ale. Interesting attempt at a super hoppy session ale but not entirely successful. It's just really hard to balance out massive hops with enough malt at 4.2%.
The aroma was great. Total perfumy hops that punched you in the face, which I dug. On tasting there were a ton of grassy-earthy hops flavours, but only a hint of an almost soda-crackery maltiness that was just overwhelmed by the hops. Normally I don't mind a super hop forward pale ale, and even like wildly unbalanced DIPA's, but this particular combo resulted in the hop flavours seeming overly harsh, especially when the bitterness kicked in on the swallow.matt7215 wrote:was it to bitter, to much hop flavour, or to much purfumy hop aroma?boney wrote:Ballast Point/Kelsey McNair/Stone San Diego County Session Ale. It could be a matter of taste, like SevenDuffs says, or maybe I just wasn't feeling it on that particular day. It kind of reminded me a little bit of Mikkeller's Drink'in the Sun 10, which had a similar hop profile, but had a bit more of a biscuitty backbone, even at 2.9%.

Grand River Russian Gun Imperial Stout (2010) - seems like they kicked up the bittering hops with this year's version. I'm really digging it. Gonna have to grab some more bottles before this disappears.

Loving this year's version of the Canuck. Had a few pints at the Vic last week and it was drinking very nicely. Seems a touch hoppier than last year, and no diacetyl whatsoever. Hoping the bottles are the same.mahcinesquad wrote:Some Project X bottles the wifey picked up for me the other day:
