Gearing up for Hallowe'en with a continuing movie/beer marathon all week. Up tonight: Fright Night and Army of Darkness accompanied by a Porter Baltique, Supercollider, Netherworld and some St Ambroise Pumpkin on reserve, just in case. Should be a good night.
I don't always drink beer ... because sometimes my friends win and we have to go to macro-only establishments.

A blend of Hop Nouveau 2011, Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale and Trafalgar ESB, 1/3rd each. A killer combination where the pumpkin flavour and spice are an accent (still surprisingly forward) balanced by firm bitter hop and sweetish smooth malt. It's not a roasted malt taste but the light amber quality of two of the beers lends a pleasing, Maillard-influenced quality.

This shows me that pumpkin spicing needs lots of hops to show to best advantage. Not West Coast-style aroma hops but strong alpha acid ones, Galena and that style.

Had a Darkside II at the Granite with dinner earlier, I'll probably leave it at that.

Driftwood Sartori Harvest. This year they used locally grown and malted barley as well! It's good, but perhaps a little more rustic than usual. Or maybe Fat Tug is just too awesome for anything to compare?
