What're you drinking right now?
Nick Cave's a good man. I'd love a drinking session with him and Tom Waits. Just drank Lost Coast Indica IPA, and now I'm finishing off the wife's Fish Tale Organic IPA. I find the Fish Tale better - it has a woody/herbal taste that I'm really digging, whereas the Indica seems all about bitterness.
This weekend I'm going to pick up something I've not tried before. I may go for the Niagara Premium Blonde (after Jesse's review) or the True North Altbier. I'll also be grabbing some hop bomb and signature ale at the Victory cask festival.
I'm off to listen to Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis.

Savour them, my friend. Every time I go to the LCBO, I pathetically keep an eye out for this beer, knowing that it's obviously long gone.JesseM wrote:Scotch Irish John By.
I finally finished the painstaking process of course registrations, so I figured I'd treat myself. Not exactly a refreshing summer beer, but I've only got 2 bottles left after this one, and I sure am going to miss them all when they're gone .
Enjoying a few
County Durham Signature,
quite a pleasant treat.

The website claims it will be brewed 'limited & seasonal', but that doesn't mean the Liquor Cash Barons will approve it for stores (the Black Irish Porter did not come back for this fall and it was IMO extremely fine, even holding longer in the bottle than did the Harvey's.)shintriad wrote:Savour them, my friend. Direct from the brewmaster himself! I'm a member of BeerAdvocate, and we did a trade thing where you receive a package of beer from another Canadian and beer it forward to another. I was lucky enough to get my package from Dave (the brewmaster) at Wild Rose, and I sent some good stuff out to Halifax. I really love Canadian beer, and prefer trying it to US stuff (I know some folks will find that a bit ridiculous). The beer itself is really good, and ready to drink now for sure. It has notes of chocolate, raisin, caramel and wood in the taste and looks fantastic, I'm disappointed that I just had my last sip.Queef wrote:???? tell me more...and how did you get it?Bobsy wrote: Wild Rose Barley Wine.
On an unrelated note. I'm glad to hear so manyt folks will be at the Victory tomorrow. I'll probably be wearing a Jays jersey, so if you want to talk to an exceptionally cool and handsome fellow you know who you're looking for!

It's strange, I had thought the Black Irish has sold extremely well... I know I bought more than a few bottles.Belgian wrote:The website claims it will be brewed 'limited & seasonal', but that doesn't mean the Liquor Cash Barons will approve it for stores (the Black Irish Porter did not come back for this fall and it was IMO extremely fine, even holding longer in the bottle than did the Harvey's.)
I had such as craving for John By last night...
Any comments on how the By is aging? Are you guys keeping it in cool, dark cellars, a fridge, under the kitchen counter...?
I have had just a few bottles from a case of Tsarina Katerina go funky on me (with 'bad-milk' lactic sourness really taking over) but the bottles that held for a long time were magnificent.
Shoot I should have bought more John By. If anyone wants to trade for Chimay Bleue 3 : 2 I have loads of this Trappist ale from 2006 quietly maturing downstairs... we can talk.

I wouldn't say it's really changed much to be honest. It's only been, what? 7-8 months? It just seems less 'fresh' than it was when I first had it . A little richer maybe, do Imperial Stout's really change very much over time? Other than just the alcohol mellowing out. I have little to no experience with aged Imperial Stouts.
