Anderson Valley Barbey Flats Oatmeal stout - great new label design.

My last bottle of Half Pints Black Galaxy. Still one of THE best CDA's I've tried.

My 2nd last Orval, bb 9 2012 and quite bretty.

Decided to open my second last Cocoa d'Orval homebrew. This was a sweet chocolate stout that I split that batch and oaked & orval'd half. I entered it in the ALES homebrew comp as a Belgian Stout many years ago. One judge said it wasn't stouty enough, another said it wasn't Belgain enough and the 3rd said it was a great wood-aged brew and I should've entered it in that category. Over 6 years later, all I can say is I REALLY like it. :P

Sounds like "Goldilocks and the 3 bears of BJCP" nursery rhyme.

A beer from a new brewery tonight: Pipeworks Ninja vs. Unicorn DIPA. Good enough but nothing special about it.

I'm a big Half Pints fan, and good friends with the people there, but the Black Galaxy didn't do it for me. I find that the whole CDA/Black IPA style is very subjective, some work, some don't. I grabbed some fresh Mountain Standard Time when I was at Odell; it was hoppy as balls, but just didn't do it for me, yet others I shared it with loved it.. My fav that comes to mind is Stone Sublimely Self Righteous.

I put together the recipe for a 600L batch of an all-Zythos Black DIPA that we brewed at the Bushwakker about a month ago. I may be biased, but it is tasting pretty delish at this point.

Tree Hop Head Black IPA

Did not expect to see this at Dundurn when I dropped by for some Red Racer! Had the whole feature minus the DIPA.
