think you were both drinking the same one. glad you enjoyed! new batch in fermenters from the fall, back closest to our original 2006 recipe that won gold + best in show at ALES in 2009.Torontoblue wrote:I had the 2008 version this past weekend, and got pretty much the same flavours coming through. Was very interesting towards the bottom of the bottle when all the 'sludge' was later added; delicious.TheSevenDuffs wrote:Finally got around to drinking Grub's homebrew Old Ale that he gave me many months ago (maybe a year ago?).
Very good. Lots of toffee, dark caramel and brown sugar. Very sweet with a nice warming alcohol presence to cut through the sweetness. Well done!
I don't think I even have any of that one left...Torontoblue wrote:Still got an '06 to crack open one day, unless Viggo really insists he wants it back!!

Having a Hopfenstark 16 Saison, maybe it's the yeast talking but the taste reminds me of some of the saisons I've made, I like it, although I haven't done a saison with rye yet.

Yeah, I plan to visit the Hart & Thistle right after my exam tomorrow!
I can see Garrison from my hotel window! I thought their Red (not to be confused with the Amber) was quite good. Nice malt profile, but still a fairly crisp finish. It's the only craft the Westin has on-tap, so I'm sure I'll have a few more.

Too close to the Henry House (Granite on tap) to not head there!Derek wrote:Yeah, I plan to visit the Hart & Thistle right after my exam tomorrow!

On Garrison... I assume it has something to do with NS Liquor laws, but man what a dissapointment to visit that great brewery location and store, see all those great bottles in the fridge, and only be able to buy samples of the few taps they offer. When I was last there, they had just put out the NitWit, it was a beautiful hot day, but I couldn't drink it on site!
