Brought a couple of bottles of this back from the Xmas week Montreal trip, drank the first right away and the second tonight, it seems to have changed quite a bit between the two bottles. This is my third cedar beer and is completely different from the other two, more herbal and subtle than the Hitachino or Cigar City cedar beers, all my QC friends hate it but I think I'll be grabbing another few bottles on the March trip.

Well maybe I'll just have a pint of Cotswald Old Ale and stare wistfully at the countryside.Torontoblue wrote:saints_gambit wrote:Nukie Brown.
Why? I plan on picking a fight later and then ordering a curry. That's why.
No, no, no, no, no................you don't have a curry with a bottle of Dog.........you have a doner kebab....or as the Scots do, a deep fried doner kebab.

The 2 Year Old could be in a 'transitional' stage. The batch that arrived in Alberta a couple of months ago is super fresh. For my nose & palate, I'm getting a lot more hop aroma and flavour, and also bags full of cinder toffee, more than one would expect in a RIS, especially compared to previous Rasputin.TheSevenDuffs wrote:Very interesting. And unexpected. I thought this one aged quite well...markaberrant wrote:side by side tasting:

The 1 year is the better of the two. Firmer roast, and brighter dark fruit. The 2 year is more of a dusty chocolate, the overall flavours seem muddled, and the booze is playing a bigger role. Interesting to say the least.
Anyway, for tonight it's been:
Rogue's Santa's Private Reserve
Fire Mountain's Steam Fired Stout
Brewster's Blue Monk Barley Wine

I am thinking the same thing, and meant to mention that last night. I tried a 2 year old Storm King last year and felt the same way. I will revisit all of them again in the future...Torontoblue wrote:The 2 Year Old could be in a 'transitional' stage.TheSevenDuffs wrote:Very interesting. And unexpected. Black Creek Porter, while watching Portlandia, not too bad at all.

Tonight at The King Edward Restaurant & Pub:
F&M Stone Hammer Oatmeal Coffee Stout (draught)
Fuller's ESB (draught)
2 x Fuller's London Porter (cask)
Wellington Arkell Best Bitter (bottle)
Wellington Special Pale Ale (draught - Thanks Rich!)
And I didn't even get around to the Hacker Pschorr Dunkel Weisse on tap. Funny how this place was overlooked in the recent Food & Drink write-up on the 'best beer bars in London,' as it's easily the second best spot in the area. Any mention of the top spots in London is incomplete without coverage of The King Eddy. Perhaps this will be corrected in future issues of the magazine. Anyhow, I'm feeling no pain right now - thanks for another great night Rich!
