St. Ambroise Pale Ale (bottle) – a perennial favourite of mine, this old school, defiantly clear pale hasn't lost an ounce of charm, and still drinks exactly like it did ten years ago. A true Canadian classic IMO.

Beau’s Wag the Wolf. I remember this one being good, but drinking this current LCBO batch and it’s pretty bland. Very little wheat character. Ditto for the hops.

I also remeber this being one of the few Beaus beers that I really enjoyed years ago. I had a can in my hand today, but didn’t pull the trigger. Glad, after reading your thoughts.

Nice, didn’t know the lcbo had more of their stuff in. I’ll need to make another order soon. It’s my hometown brewery

One of these things is not like the others.
One of these things just doesn't belong.
:D

(I'm not judging, just having fun)

Lol. You are definitely right about that. But to my surprise, it was drinking decent after a 17-year hiatus. Almost tastes like an all-malt pale lager now (not sure that's actually the case, since it's always been an adjunct lager, but you could've fooled me). Seems like the switch to Sleeman is boding well for this beer.

Returned some empties to TBS this weekend and grabbed the St. Ambroise mix-pack. Looking forward to re-tasting the Pale Ale, it's been a while but I remember enjoying it for the same reasons. It's nice when some things don't change.

Another trip to cottage country yielded a new brewery visit- Calabogie Brewing. Never had their beers, let alone been to the area before but I came away impressed.

Calabogie Brown Cow Nitro Milk Stout - I love nitro, I love milk stouts. This was excellent with lots of rich chocolate, roasted malt and even a hint of smokiness. One of the better nitro stouts I've had in a while.

Calabogie Front Porch Kolsch - Quite good, well made kolsch. Pale malts, some fruitiness and a good hop bite on the finish.

Had a couple of their IPAs alongside their pizza. Good food, beers were at least par for the course or better. Worth the stop if you find yourself in the area.

Other beers lately:

Mikkeller (Brunswick) Peter, Pale and Mary - Nice to have this one again since I had a less than fresh can last time. Just a well-made pale ale, good hop and malt balance and very quaffable.

Driftwood Fat Tug - Always enjoy the switch to cans for hoppy styles. This really is a yardstick Canadian IPA- resinous, piney, juicy hops with a nice malty backbone. Not quite east coast, not quite west coast, just delicious.

Collective Arts Hazy State - Finally found a can of the tweaked formula and I've gotta say it's an improvement. It's got a remarkably full body for a session IPA, a style I usually don't enjoy all that much.

Rogue Dead Guy Ale - This was one of the earlier craft beers I ever tried, and possibly my first maibock. I remember it being quite something, unlike most of the "beers" I was used to. It stills holds up, it is an excellent beer. Big and malty with a good hop bite, a great take on the style. Nice to see it back around these parts.

Flying Monkeys Killer Cupcake Panda — The pandan leaves definitely bring a vanilla flavour, but that't not really what I want in an IPA. The LCBO clerk mentioned it's her favourite beer ever. Top marks for originality.
