Introducing Light Mode! If you would like a Bar Towel social experience that isn't the traditional blue, you can now select Light Mode. Go to the User Control Panel and then Board Preferences, and select "Day Drinking" (Light Mode) from the My Board Style drop-down menu. You can always switch back to "Night Drinking" (Dark Mode). Enjoy!

RateBeer has always had an option to download all of your ratings in a couple of different formats (although it might only have been available to paid members). But I guess being able to use that would be dependant on the site coming back online at some point.

Thankfully, I was smart enough to grab a download of my ratings on the weekend just as the shit started hitting the fan again, so I have an up-to-date version safely stored.

I wonder who would choose ratebeer as a target? Strange.

I like Belgian's conspiracy theory route, but its probably just some random jackass. I can see that its' large user base and probable lack of big buck corporate-level security would make it a very attractive target to key loggers, spam artists and guys who get a kick out of screwing up people's PCs. I'd recommend anyone who has visited the site recently to run all the relevant checks for viruses, trojans and spybots. I'd probably clear the internet cache as well.

You might be able to still save some earlier reviews (prior to Jan 2008):

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.ratebeer.com

Though I don't know how functional that is (I'm not a paid member).

Makes sense, Tango was the absolute lowest rated at one time.

i have almost all the ratings stored on another site just for this reason. ALthough RB allows some ratings, noteable meads, and not others (variations of the same recipe)

When MADD attacks?

Meh, maybe not... They may have done some stupid things, but I don't think they're clever enough to hatch this scheme.
