Our First Ever K-W Tasting

Post by tupalev »

So a group of K-W Bartowelers got together for the first time this past weekend for a tasting - thought some of you might have wanted to check out what we had:

It was a successful night ! (sorry about the glaring flash pics and the messy floor, I took this at 230am and was well past due for bed)

Is that a growler of Rebellion in the background I see? Those were the days....

P.S. What's the one between Mikkeller and Oktoberfest? Homebrew?

Yeah, it was a freebie promo at my University pub that I acquired in the late 90's...all we had to do was order a pitcher of Upper Canada Dark! We had a lot of growlers (unfortunately they did not fill them).

Yes, Matt (matt7215 I think is his handle here) brought his fantastic well hopped Imperial Stout. It was not out of place with all of the other outstanding Imperial Stouts we had that night.

Cool. Looks like you had a good turnout!

Nice growler too... I think the Rebellion Ale was my first introduction to the cascade hop. It was sort of my gateway beer. I was sad when they axed it & kept the lager.

I never got to try the ale; when I got into craft brews, only the lager was available, which was a bit of a gateway for me as well.

We had 6 people for the tasting, which was a great number, although we had some pretty damn strong beers and could have used an extra liver or two for the big bottles :)

What about the turned around Hockley? Imperial homebrew as well?

I'd love to have a sample of homebrews that don't taste out of place standing next to such an amazing beer line up as you had there.

No that was Brasserie du Lievre La Blanche a L’abinthe – 1L - one of the guys had been to Quebec recently and brought back some stuff no one had tried.

Yeah, big credit goes to Matt for that, I was really surprised just how good that stout was - but you needed to like your Cascade hops (which I do) - it was very aggressively hopped!

Impressive array of bottles, I can see people shared some of their best stuff.

Doesn't your sense of taste get tired after five or six samples?

Not when you have a good number of people sampling and not when you mix up the styles, as we did, I find.

Nice tasting guys! Good turnout and excellent samples.

I'd love to start up something in the London area, but there simply aren't any BTers around me.
