Also:

1995 Sam Adams Triple Bock - was kind of lousy back then. Don't know if age will have made it drinkable. No expecting so.

2003 Terrible

2004 Mill St. Barley Wine - In a stubby

2005 Scotch-Irish Tsarina Katarina - What a great stout this was. Might be pushing it by now, but couldn't resist seriously aging my last bottle. Anyone had one, lately? Cheers Perry! You had some great beers!

2007 Mill St. Barley Wine - Ceramic bottle
Had my last but one bottle of Katrina in August 20121 at the RBAG gathering. It's still holding up and drinking well. Not sure if I want to drink the last one!

If we're talking holding onto old beers, then I've got 2002 Quelche Chose, 2002 Terrible, and a Unibroue 11 (2002) and La Fin du Monde from 1998. Really should share these with friends and open them soon. I tried at RBAG 2014, but everyone just wanted the new hip beers

I have a bernardus 12 from the winter release that I think was around 3 years ago (2011 does that sound right?). I bought two and drank one right away, I was going to save the next one for christmas the next year but I got sick that christmas and didn't feel like drinking it. Now I am just waiting for a special time to try it.

Not sure if I'm saving anything special. I've found that most bottles, I just drink when it feels right. Guess I'm waiting for those bottles of westy to mature - they should be getting close.

Perry made very good stuff. I'd buy his Black Irish Porter and Stuart's Session Bitter if they were around.

My case of Tsarina was less fortunate - and thus not kept too long - a worrying number of bottles developed a weird sour-rotten / ashtray flavor, and the others were pretty much spot on.

Some ratings from just a few years qgo are pretty stellar, if anyone's wondering about their stash of TK.

Ahh, I remember the hype around here when Tsarina Katarina came out. I never managed to get a bottle...not sure why. Great to see some old, local, beers getting special attention.

Since this thread is named "name a beer have you been saving for a special occasion" and not "what is your oldest beer in your collection" i'm going with my Duck Duck Gooze that I got this summer. I'm definitely saving that for a special occasion, like for when thesevenduffs actually comes over for a beer.

I have a few of those left too. I drank one a few months ago, and it's drinking just fabulously right now...almost port-like.

I drank one of those bottles from that lcbo release not too long ago, it was fantastic. It was actually a 2010 bottle date. Went out and bought 5 cases of the 750mls after trying it aged. Planning ahead for 2018+!

Cool, maybe I will drink it soon. Maybe this Christmas. I think you a right, looking at the old thread about the actual release, it does appear to be 2010.

labour day weekend is always in close proximity to or includes my birthday, so i'll be digging into the cellar for some cool stuff to open. and with this year being my 40th, i think a few of the rarer ones might come out. i'm currently eyeing up the oldest bottle in my stash, a 1992 thomas hardy's that i've been holding on to since it was given to me for my birthday almost a decade ago...

really, i have so many of these types of beers that i've lost count. small verticals grow to big verticals and become too much to drink alone, so they just sit and grow even larger. special bottles sit and multiply. for me, it's often more about having great folks to share great beer with than it is a special occasion. more often i find myself just grabbing them anytime lest they go past their prime. i mean, "it's wednesday" is a good excuse to drink a dark lord, right? :D

I've still got a number of bottles somewhere deep in the cellar. Haven't had one in years, should crack one open and see what it's like...
