Memberlist Purge?
I was just going through the memberlist looking for someone, and I noticed there are thousands of pages of members. Needless to say, I didn't want to searh for what I was looking for anymore. I notived user names like "Viagara Sex" and stuff like that. I was wondering if these could be purged to free up space and make the list a little more accurate and user friendly?
If you`re reading this, there`s a 15% chance you`ve got a significant drinking problem. Get it fixed, get recovered!
Viagara Sex is an upstanding member - I can't believe you want to exile him from the site!SteelbackGuy wrote:I was just going through the memberlist looking for someone, and I noticed there are thousands of pages of members. Funny posts guys, thanks for the laughs!
But seriously, 90% of our memberlist is made up of bots or people who don't exist. I think it would really benefit the site (costs, bandwidth?) if these were purged on a somewhat regular basis.

Cass can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that those junk accounts have no effect on costs of bandwidth. They're created by spammers/bots in an attempt to make a post, which fails because all accounts need to be manually approved by Cass before posting is allowed. So after the initial creation of the account, they have no effect on the site, they just sit there doing nothing.SteelbackGuy wrote:But seriously, 90% of our memberlist is made up of bots or people who don't exist. Yeah, that was one of my thoughts as well Jer. Glad I am not the only one who feels this way!JerCraigs wrote:Other than making the memberlist a PITA to search through...GregClow wrote:So after the initial creation of the account, they have no effect on the site, they just sit there doing nothing.

Yes, but i hardly think asking Cass to add filtering through 18325 registered users on top of everything else he has on in his life would be fair.SteelbackGuy wrote:Yeah, that was one of my thoughts as well Jer. I would suggest, that as a starting point, you start going through the list and emailing Cass a list of bots or suspected bots. I know from using a phpbb Forum, that its easy enough to delete accounts, but it makes it a lot quicker if you have a list you can copy and paste from rather than having to go through the database list yourself.
