10th Anniversary Beer to be released in November

Post by Asst. Grain Shoveller »

Hi Everybody

November 18 2009 will be our 10th anniversary.

Because of that momentous occasion Adrian concocted our 10th Anniversary Beer.

It will be released in limited amounts to certain Toronto Bars
We will bottle up the majority of it. Its designed to be good for cellaring.
We'll store it here and have it available from our retail store until it runs out.

It is a strong beer coming in at 8% and is made with RO water, Malt Hops & yeast.
I'll leave it up to you to decide what style of beer it could be.

IF YOU ASK US WHAT KIND OF BEER IT IS, WE'LL JUST SAY "ITS A 10th ANNIVERSARY BEER..........."

That's the fun part.

Oh by the way: the Anniversary Beer is Called "10 Bitter Years"

just gonna have some more fun and make you wait until the middle of November.

Cheers
Ken'

Nice one Ken. I also thought of "Still Bitter After All These Years".

Can't wait for this one, both on tap and bottle. Hope the Nutcracker isn't too far behind.

A keg of this was tapped at Rhino yesterday. When I was there for dinner soon after it was tapped, they weren't serving it because it was pouring very murky and they wanted to see if it would settle, but Chris gave me a small sample to try it.

It's good. REALLY good. Tons of grapefruity hops. I can't wait to try a proper pint or three of it.

I stopped in at the brewery yesterday and was told that there would be no bottles of this available. Kegs only and just a few of those. I was disappointed but after reading Greg's brief review I am downright distraught!

Hi Everyone
Very sorry about the bottling situation.
Unfortunately there will be no bottles available for sale.

We've got some very old bottling equipment that has been acting up since August and despite our best efforts.
I don't think anyone is more disappointed than me.

But some times you just have to lick your wounds and move on.

There will be kegs and casks appearing here and there throughout the year.

Please enjoy the beer. Its something special to have survived for 10 years when many people didn't think we'd make it.

Cheers
Ken

Ken - I was out at the brewery today with my two brothers and we all grabbed a case of the superb Oaktoberfest. Thanks for the tip on the 10 Bitter Years at the Rhino - we headed directly there and had a couple pints each of the 10 Bitter Years. Oh MY GOD - maybe it's the beer talking, but this is hands down the best Ontario brewed beer I have ever had. Sitting in the sun on a beautiful fall day and sipping a couple pints of this was ecstasy. I want to thank you and Adrian for brewing this. Now, can you guys get this into your regular rotation (even if draught only)? ONTARIO IS READY. If you brew it, they will come (sorry for the unintentionally disturbing image).

I know Black Oak has it in them to make shockingly good beer. Look at Stone. They do a NEW anniversary ale every year, and people collect & obsess over them for years after. I rarely find a Stone beer I do not like... go nuts, Black Oak!

velo - how was the 10BY pouring today? I'm hoping that the yeast settled overnight, as it was pretty sludgy yesterday.

Busy tonight, but I'll have to pop by tomorrow and see if there's any left...

It was still pouring reallllllllly slowly with lots of thick head (each pint took roughly 3-4 minutes, and there ended up being 3 pint glasses half filled with sloughed-off foam at the end of it all), and was still pretty hazy. However, a lot of the stuff in the beer seemed to be little hop fragments, and a bit of yeast as well. Ken mentioned there were a few kegs going to Volo and the other usual haunts, so if you do miss it at the Rhino, it'll turn up again. An absolutely amazing pint, not to be missed.
