One giant straw please!

Didn't know if this was Random Talk or a Beer Event, of course feel free to move.

From Thespec.com:

Now that’s a beer run: six giant vats will make four-day trek on trucks from Hamilton to T.O.
Molson/Coors is moving a lot of beer this month.

Ditto for the beer vats that will help produce it.

Weather permitting, the Challenger Motor Freight Company will begin Tuesday at 9 p.m. transporting six giant beer vats from Pier 12 of the Hamilton Port Authority to the Molson/Coors Brewery on Carlingview Drive near Pearson airport.

Each vat is 45 metres long, 7.3 metres wide and 7.6 metres high, and weighs more than 45 tonnes. And each vat can contain 1.4 million bottles of beer, says Challenger spokesperson Frank DeVries.

The vats arrived at the Hamilton port just over a week ago via a cargo ship from their German manufacturer. The trip across the Atlantic Ocean took 15 days.

“I think it will be one of the largest moves on Ontario roads in recent history,” DeVries said. “It is unprecedented in terms of size and distance.”

The move will require partial road closures, temporary removals of hydro wires and traffic lights, and 40 police officers from five police services. The trailers hauling the vats will move at about walking speed the entire 108 kilometres. The convoy of 40 vehicles will move from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. over four consecutive nights to minimize traffic congestion.

DeVries said the road transport has been six months in the planning. He wouldn’t say what the moving contract is worth but did say the police costs alone will be substantial.

“There will be a lot of overtime to buy beer with,” he quipped.

Locally, the beer vats will exit the port at Burlington Street and the convoy will turn south on Wentworth Street, then west on Cannon Street to York Boulevard. The vats will be transported up the Clappison Cut before turning east on Dundas Street. DeVries hopes the convoy can make it to Dundas Street and Kerns Road by the end of the first leg.

Halton police Acting Sergeant Jim Valade is co-ordinating that region’s portion of the journey.

“What makes it unique is it involves police from five jurisdictions to get these vats across to Toronto,” he said, adding that officers will be on paid duty, with Challenger covering the cost.

“We have the odd wide-load escort but it’s usually a house,” Valade said. “But the noteworthy thing about this is the size. This is going to be a half-kilometre (convoy) by the time it is done. It will be quite a spectacle for downtown Waterdown.”

The procession is expected to move painstakingly slowly through the historic village around 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Realistically I don't think a detour sign would work...
But the possibilities of 6 Tanks that big is mind boggling.
Couldn't even imagine getting them into the building and they probably would not even fit in the parking lot!!!
Kinda nice to dream about it 'tho!!!!

I will do what I can to divert them to Black Oak, don't be surprised if you see them on Horner Avenue when you come in the next morning.

As of this morning, they are parked in front of Dundurn Castle, they didn't make it as far as they wanted due to the amount of wires they had to contend with. I drove by there today.

I forgot about this. Maybe I'll take a walk down in a bit to see if they're still there. I finally took the plunge into homebrew earlier this week and could use some additional equipment...
