Best beer by province/territory...

Post by BooBoo »

Kind of a slow day on my Christmas vacation, so I decided to go through my database and discover the best beer I've drank from each province or territory.

Newfoundland & Labrador = Never had a beer from here.
Prince Edward Island = Gahan Brewing Company Island Red.
Nova Scotia = Garrison Imperial IPA.
New Brunswick = Picaroons Yippee IPA.
Quebec = Peche Mortel. Tough one, so many good choices.
Ontario = Beau's Beaver River IPeh.
Manitoba = Half Pints Humulus Ludicrous.
Saskatchewan = Never had a beer from here.
Alberta = Big Rock Traditional Ale (sad).
British Columbia = Phillips Amnesiac DIPA.
Yukon = Midnight Sun Espresso Stout.
Northwest Terretories = Nothing from here.
Nunavut = Nothing from here.

You are seriously missing some great beers from Alberta if Big Rock is your best.

Newfoundland & Labrador = Nothing.
Prince Edward Island = Nothing.
Nova Scotia = Garrison Imperial IPA.
New Brunswick = Only beer I've had is Picaroons Dark & Stormy Night, and it was a gusher.
Quebec = Peche Mortel.
Ontario = Durham Hop Head.
Manitoba = Half Pints Humulus Ludicrous.
Saskatchewan = Paddock Wood Bramling Cross
Alberta = Toss up between Alley Kat Coffee Porter, Full Moon Pale Ale & Sherbrooke KGB Imperial Stout
British Columbia = Howe Sound King Heffy & Old Yale Sasquatch Stout
Yukon = Midnight Sun Espresso Stout.
Northwest Territories = Nothing.
Nunavut = Nothing.

Yeah that's pretty rough for sure.

But hey, don't be too hard on yourself. You can't expect too much good stuff from a province that thinks the oil sands and tailings ponds are great things!

Newfoundland & Labrador - 0
Prince Edward Island - 0
Nova Scotia - Garrison Imperial IPA
New Brunswick - 0
Quebec - Corne du diable
Ontario - Ten Bitter Years
Manitoba - 0
Saskatchewan - 0
Alberta - Alberta Crude Oatmeal Stout
British Columbia - Red Racer IPA
Yukon - 0
Northwest Territories - 0
Nunavut - 0

I gotta get around more...

At least in each of the provinces mentioned where I have tried the beer, the choices above may be number one, but there are plenty of close runner ups.

And for the record, I don't think we'll ever see a brewery in Nunavut in our lifetimes.

Nova Scotia--- Hop Candy, Messy IPA. Hart And Thistle. Yesss!
New Brunswick---Double Dementia IPA, Pumphouse. Loved it.
PEI--- Gahan House IPA, meh.
Quebec--- "Black IPA" Dieu De Ciel. Best beer in Canada!!
Ontario--- Smashbomb Atomic IPA, yummmm
Manitoba-- nil
Sask --- *Molson's "Pilsner"? Yukk
Alberta--- Alberta Crude Stout. Wildrose. Smooth sipper.
BC--- Red Racer IPA. Wonderful stuff.
Yukon--Midnight Sun Expresso Stout, very nice.
Nunavut-- nil

*Note: I was at a bar in Fort McMurray and asked the bartender if they had any Alberta beers. He looked puzzled and said "I don't think there is such a thing, how about a beer from Saskatchewan?" and gave a Molson's Pilsner. :)

Nova Scotia: Garrison IIPA
New Brunswick: Piccaroons Yippie IPA
PEI: Something from Gahan - it's been years since I've been there
Quebec: LTM Baltic Porter

Alberta: Alley Kat coffee porter - My only beer from Aberta
BC: Central City Red Racer
