Top 5 in Your Cellar

Post by ritzkiss »

Recent thread on BA asked the same question and it got me thinking. Not a pissing contest, I'm always just curious to see what people have stashed away in their cellars. I'm sure there's some great stuff among us.

So, what are the top 5 gems/favorites in your cellar?

For me, it's probably:

Bruery Black Tuesday 2009
Portsmouth Kate the Great 2010
Thomas Hardy's 1983 (from a great BT'er)
White Birch Oak Aged Barleywine (1 of 24 made)
Great Divide Barrel Aged Hibernation

In no particular order, mine would be:

Biergotter Tribute
McAuslan Millesime Ale 1999
Scotch Irish Tsarina Katrina 2005 (x2)
Deschutes Abyss 2009/2010
Howe Sound Megadestroyer

I could quite easily do another Top 5, but then that would be a Top 10 and totally off topic

2009/10 Bell's Expedition (multiple bottles)
2010 KBS (just one bottle)
Goose Island 09 & 10 BCS (multiple bottles)

I'm a young guy so I don't have to much aged but:

Stone VE 05 to 10
Chimay Grand Reserve (best before 2009)
Stone Imperial Stout 2008
St Amboise RIS 2010
Westy 12 from 2008

De Dolle Oerbier 2010 / Oerbier Reserva 2009
St. Ambroise Stout Imperiale Russe 2009
Hair Of The Dog ADAM 2005 - 1 left
Beer Here Morke 2009 - 1 left
Fullers Vintage Ale 2006-2010

I'm almost scared to try another TH 2006 from the case - I've basically ignored it for years. I bought a few 2007 and 2008 in spite of myself, not even tried them. St Amby VA is never bad stuff. No clue if I will like the '09 Charlevoix Dominus Hibernus. I wish I had more Westmalle Dubbel 2007, argg...

In 2006 Chimay used an old stock of labels from '04 that said expiry '09. That may be a 2006 release you've got, so if you bought it in '06 ignore the '09 expiry the BBD is likely 2011 (five years is Chimay's own declared but not actual life span.)

I still have a 3/4 case of '06 and its just hitting magicalness, so expect to enjoy a few more years out of it with no problem (as I'm told.)

Is that the regular Lager? Would it still be any good?
If you`re reading this, there`s a 15% chance you`ve got a significant drinking problem. Get it fixed, get recovered!

Thanks for the info... I did not actually expect it to go bad in 2009, just could not remember the year that I got it. I plan to use the bottle as an experiment in self control... shelf live of a bottle conditioned beer vs. the temptation to drink it

3F DL 2008
Fullers Vintage 2004-2010
A case of Thomas Hardy's Vintage 2006
Mill Street Barley Wine 2005 (stubby)
Hair of the Dog Adam, Fred, Doggie 2006

And one worth mentioning because I KNOW it won't be any good...
A bottle of 2002 Brakspear Bitter, one of the last bottlings before the brewery sold up it's 200 year old Henley on Thames brew house and the license passed on to Refresh. Henley is my home town and I was really sad to see the legendary brewery get shut down.
I don't always piss in a bottle but when I do...I prefer to call it Dos Equis.
