For me it begins and ends with Surly Bender and Coffee Bender, which is why we're making a Coffee Bender clone. Mikeller Jackie Brown is pretty cool too.

The thread says you're welcome! :) Getting eager to bottle my brown ale...I really hope it's at least decent!

Black Oak Nut Brown comes to mind for local options. I used to like Hockley Dark as well, havent had it in a while though. I also enjoy DFH Indian Brown, Cigar City Maduro and Samuel Smiths Nut Brown. Probably forgetting at least a couple.

When I had this at Food & Drink Fest it was hardly a brown ale. Very pale in colour and not overly malty.

I usually grab some Short's Bellaire Brown and Bell's best Brown when I'm over the border. Haven't found anything suitable in Ontario.

I had the Pelican last week:

It was American, but not overtly. The floral hopping was reminiscent of a Munich Dunkel. Great stuff.

DFH Palo Santo Marron. I have memories of buying a 4 pack when I first moved to Calgary 2 years ago, sitting on a deck in my cousins back yard and crushing all 4 in about 3 hours......at 12%, in 32 degree heat......the last 2 were ambient temp but the time I got to them, but they were so more-ish I couldn't stop myself. It hurt later, but still my fave brown ale.

I bought a case right before DFH pulled out of Canada. 2 left. It will be a sad day when they go.

Both of my favorites are homebrews:

Janet's Brown
Funky Surly Bender Clone (Northern Brewer recipe soured with Jolly Pumpkin Dregs)

If it's brown, I'm not down.
