Honeymoon in Ontario

Post by Bytowner »

Hey,

So I got married on Saturday, but just started a new job so I couldn't really take any time off this week. Instead, we're going to do a bit of a road trip this coming weekend.

You're a knowledgeable bunch... what's a good getaway destination in Ontario, Western Quebec, Northern US? Food, beer, wine, etc. are all important. Just be for the weekend so we won't need a tonne to do. Nice hotel/B&B, restaurant(s), and maybe a pub or two would be great.

NOTL is already up there, so if you have any recs let me know. Thanks in advance!

Congrats on the wedding!!! Ah, weekend honeymoons...that's what we did...

Just a few ideas:

If you want a city, can't beat montreal...we did that in the summer. Great restaurants and you'll be taken care of if you stay at a nice place...

Check the deal sites (hotels.com et al) and you might be able to get a room at the Sheraton for not too much.

But since it's fall, you might want to go to Prince Edward County. It's beautiful right now - nice B and Bs - the best wine in the province, IMO.

Niagara on the Lake is nice too just for the weekend. Honeymoons are kinda important and if you spend just a little more than what your budgeting you might be much happier...so, get a nice room.

The other thing is since it's only two days...you might want to stay relatively close just so you're not spending 16 of your 48 in the car.

Muskoka's just a few hours north of the city, and lovely right now...

Have fun and let us know!!!

Mt Tremblant is nice, has a Casino, LOTS of breat restaurants, nice B&B's, a couple of MicroBreweries (La Diable, St-Arnould), spas (Le Scandinave), etc.

Thats usually where I end up bringing the wife to make up for when I get in trouble. =)

+ 1 on Tremblant.

And if it isn't too far afield, a Vieux Quebec/Baie Saint-Paul weekend might be fun.

I also noticed that Killington has a couple runs open already. Just sayin'..

We did our official honeymoon in the Vineland/Jordan area and did some winery tours. Its generally a bit less touristy and a bit less busy that NOTL, though I don't really know about this time of year. Message me for some input on wineries if you end up in the area. Congrats!

If you do go to Niagara, and are looking to do a winery tour, I highly recommend Niagara Classic Cabs

Waterbury, Vermont. 4 pubs within 50 yards of the inn!

Full disclosure: I've never been. But it sounds great :-)

I would suggest Prince Edward County to the east, or Essex county, to the west. Both have great food and wine tradtition and culture, but aren't overrun by toursits on the weekends.

Everything Jeff Porter said, Mt Tremblant sounds great too, but Montreal definitely packs in a lot in one place. Montrealers always seem to have FUN.

You get a big 'Euro' culture shift, lots to eat and drink and see and do - the two fo you can wander and bond for hours creating a memorable adventure. Great if you can get a fine B&B anywhere near the Plateau (I would not stay right downtown St Catherine, mayble between downtown and plateau is just about right.) You can forget your car for days in MTL and enjoy the thriving street life. it's nice.

Although Quebec City is also very striking for a few day visit, on its own or on conjunction with. I almost abandoned Montreal for QC one night to catch a Maiden concert so its not ridiculously far away.

Get out of Ontario, it won't cost much more!

Gotta agree on Montréal. Done pretty much everything on the list so far, and if you've never been, Montréal is the place to go. Now, this assumes that you'd enjoy the things that come with visiting a big city. If you want country/quieter then other suggestions work better.

It's pretty much impossible not to have a great time in Montréal.

Isnt Alchemist out of operations due to flooding in the brewery? You'd be better off at Stowe Mountain Resort in Stowe, VT.

You can stay at the Olde English Inne. They had Celebrator and Celebration on tap last time I was there.

Montreal it is. We've done it to death, but everything else seems to be booked up so we're taking the good ol' train from Ottawa. Any new and exciting tips let me know! Hoping we can snag a table at PDC tomorrow or Saturday if we show up at 5 or so.
