Brick rebranding Waterloo line-up

Post by GregClow »

It looks like Brick is about to start rebranding their Waterloo beers as the more craft-oriented side of their business. (Sort of like what they tried with the J.R. Brickman line a few years ago, before it was cut when Jim was given the boot.)

Later this month, they'll be launching a new beer - Waterloo IPA - in a new style of can:

And around the same time, they'll be relaunching Waterloo Dark with a similar new look:

Curious...

Is this Waterloo IPA an actual IPA? Or an Alexander Keith's/Rickards-type IPA?

Given that it hasn't actually been released yet, it'll probably be tough for anyone to answer your question...

Although, it does say "Traditional IPA". Maybe English IPA?

Well, on the abv side it's only 5.2%, so it is on the low end - but maybe it makes up for it in bitterness?

Interesting, anyway. I don't know why, but maybe it's because I'm from Waterloo, and maybe because they are an early independent brewery, but I am really rooting for them to make good beer.

I just don't think re-branding (a la John Sleeman Presents) is going to do it.

I didn't care for it and wouldn't call it an IPA, in any tradition.
Hmm ... sounds like some competition for Keith's IPA and Rickard's IPA...

Or it would be, assuming Rickard's IPA actually existed...

Either your sense of humour is going over my head or you have yet to be exposed to one of the worst beers that Ontario has seen in a long time.

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that Rickard's IPA and Rickard's Pale Ale are the same beer. Didn't they just ditch the "India" from the bottles?

funny enough it's not really like Keith's. it's darker and has a different hop to the nose, though very light.
