hot toddy recipes

Post by JeffPorter »

So I'm sick again - man, I've never had this many colds so early in the season - at least they've all been pretty mild.

What I'm wondering is, for those who employ the use of hot toddy's, (yes, I know they don't really work)

What do you put in yours?

Right now I have a mixture of Jack Daniels and Brandy (about 1.5 oz total) with a Eucalyptus tea and honey.

I don't feel horrible, just can't smell a damn thing, not even the Jack Daniels - even with a sinus rinse.

More of a mulled wine.

Roughly:

2 cups cheap red wine (the bigger the better)
2 cups sweet apple cider
tsp cloves
cinnamon stick
peeled tangerine or two if you have it

Boil it all down to half the volume, strain the spices and while still hot add 1-2 oz brandy. Eat the swollen tangerine slivers with it.

Warms the belly, soothes the throat and most importantly, makes you sleeeeepy.

Repeat until spring.

Hot water, honey, lemon and either brandy or a sotch/whiskey. They do actually work for a few reasons. Hot drinks with alcohol helps you sweat out your cold or fever and it soothes sore throats.

Nothing better than the tried and true Irish hot whiskey IMO. Irish whiskey, boiling hot water, cloves, lemon. Sugar optional (I prefer without).
