Spiegelau/Dogfish/SierraNeveda IPA Glasses

Did a quick search and didn't see anything on this coming up. If it's here my apologies. Anyhow, for those still looking for these glasses, they are now available at The Bay now and someone mentioned also in Sears as well.

It is pricey considering when I ordered 6 through the Dogfish website a few months ago, with shipping they came out to $15CAN each.

Are they really that much better?

I just can't see it enhancing the beer more than the glass I normally drink IPAs out of (tulip).
Plus your hand would warm up the beer with this glass, whereas I prefer IPAs on the cooler/cold side.

not to thread-jack (but I'm going to). As long as we are on the topic of glassware, does anyone know a good source for Teku glasses? deschutes has some on their site and they will ship here, but the cost of shipping is a bit high.

I'm not sure what the price comparison is like, but I've had good luck getting glassware from truebeer in the past.

I bought one while in Seattle last month and it ran me just under $9. I was happy to add this unique glass to my collection for that price.

The neat part about this glass, for me, is that the beer rushes along those ridges at the base after you've taken a big sip, and the beer becomes fully aerated and heady all over again, as if just poured. If you haven't seen the video for the glass, Ken Grossman of Sierra Nevada and Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head discuss the design, and around the 3 minute mark Sam talks about the feature I mentioned above (

Would I buy it again for $20.00? Absolutely not. I love beer, but I also love my wife.

2 for 25 ain't bad though. It's on my wishlist as I haven't been able to find it elsewhere. Would be nice if it was branded though.

Funny, I wish all my glasses weren't branded. I have way too many glasses of the same type because of the different brands. Just a couple of each, unbranded, is preferred for me.

The aroma is enhanced but only minimial. I too like drinking my ipa from the tulip. The only thing I like better is the etching in the dfh glass that adds that extra carbonation.

There were tons of the Sierra Nevada branded ones in Buffalo a few weeks ago for ~$8 (I was there again this past weekend but didn't look at glasses). Saw them at Consumer's Elmwood and Premier. Not really a DFH fan so I was glad to find the SN version. I doubt the glass makes a big difference over traditional tulips or snifters, but I do like it a lot. Feels nice in the hand. Nucleation point is in the shape of a hop cone. Beers can look really nice in the glass as the shape of the glass really shows the spectrum of the beer's colour. It's also very top-heavy, a pain to wash, and it feels very fragile. It's only a matter of time before it breaks.

I also like drinking my IPAs from tulips/snifters. Plus, those glasses just look so strange (I will avoid making an off-side comparison here lol).
