The other thing is even if they only get trial drinkers who don't do a lot of repeat business, NY is a state with 20 million people in it. That could still translate into a pretty big/successful expansion for them.

And the nice thing about the US beer system is that if they get in with a good distrobutor then the distributor does all the sales legwork (going from store to store and making deliveries)

I'll give Beau's some credit - Lug Tread is a decent Kölsch, many people like it, and they know how to sell products.

Even if I'm not crazy about every 'super crafty' beer from Beau's I wish them luck.

I just think this is a great opportunity for Beau's and Ontario craft in general.

Unibroue paved the way (IMO) for all the Quebec craft beers that are quite prominent in the US nowadays. Nice to see Beau's doing so and I hope more Ontario craft brewers follow suit. It will help the status of beer in Ontario for more people outside of the province to see and be able to buy beers from here.

It might generate initial sales, but now matter how nice a label is, repeat business will require good beer. And when your competition includes the likes of Founders, Bell's. Except for the most part they probably won't be directly competing with those beers. I mean I am sure there are a ton of people out there who drink lug tread regularly who have never tried Twice as Mad Tom or Boneshaker. Just like in the US there are tons of people who Drink Boston Lager or SNPA or Brooklyn lager regularly, who have never tried KBS or Wookey Jack or Sculpin. The competition for Lug Tread won't be the well made extreme beers, the same way it isn't in in Ontario.

they're not looking for the craft beer elite. probably looking for people who buy beer based on labels and who want something that isn't Big Brewery.
i know enough non-beer geeks who love Lug Tread, so clearly some people like what Beau's offers. to each his own, i guess.

I was in a pub recently with Bud and Bud Light, Rolling Rock, Heineken and other atrocities on tap. I was darn glad to see a Lug Tread tap, I can tell you!

Safe to assume that won't include Great Lakes, unless they change the name of their brewery?

If I had a choice of Boston Lager or SNPA or Brooklyn lager OR Lugtread or tom Green, I would never ever choose Beaus. Even with the meager selection we have here Lugtread isn't even on my radar.
