I went but didn't get in. After an hour and 20 minutes waiting in line out in the cold the prospect of a cold beer lost all appeal and I bailed. Consoled myself with a bottle of I.P.Eh? in my warm living room.

Nice to see the owner of Beau's making his way down the line chatting with people.

Had a pint at the Local, then Lone Pine and CV Robust Porter at C'est What before heading back up to Volo at 10:30 - only had to wait about 10minutes outside at that point, Had the Barrel Aged Dunkel Buck and the last pint of the Doublewide Cask before calling it a night

It was a good time, would have been nice to get in earlier, but c'est la vie

Man - if this is a sign of what the next DDC takeover is going to be like, I'm not sure if I can do that...clearly, we need more events like this in the city...

the DDC takeover was pretty nuts last year. but i recall only waiting 30 min to get in AND then get our beer.

i think this is an unfortunate but positive sign of a few things. keep in mind that most of the early crowd was full of industry people. but clearly Toronto's hunger for innovative beer is growing beyond capacity. and it also means that Volo should re-consider its location and size (which i think it is doing) since holding 100 people for an event and turning away 100 more isn't all that productive.

i wanted to go for a pint because, to be honest, i'm pretty neutral on Beau's. haven't had an offensive Beau's beer but haven't been blown away. kind of want to be blown away.

A lot of us feel that way about Beau's.

Agreed, solid and consistent but lacks that little extra to put them in my top breweries in Ontario.

The C'est What festivals have had big line ups for a while now, and other events have been getting steadily longer lines so I am not shocked. I think this is a function of increased craft beer popularity and limited capacity at venues. The alternative is to ticket the events, but if you search Bartowel you will see just as many people complaining about missing out on tickets for those events, so you can't win really.

I don't necessarily agree that the line up was mostly industry people though. There was a lot of beaus and volo staff inside already, but most of the people I saw/talked to were just your regular beer enthusiasts. Perhaps I was just oblivious, its been known to happen :)

I had fun, enjoyed a good number of the beers, particularly the quad, peanut better brew, agave, and the rye porter. The limited capacity sucks for those who didn't make it in right away, but I enjoyed the extra elbow room for those inside!
