Trou du Diable and Ontario importing - coming soon?
Trou du Diable and Ontario importing - coming soon?
Just a speculative thread, i guess....
but doing the quick math here, i'm guessing that Trou du Diable's going to be following in Dieu du Ciel's footsteps and will soon be relatively available at Toronto higher-end bars and hip restaurants.
how do i figure?
-the brewery's expanding capacity (although I'm not sure/too lazy to check when its complete)
-its currently represented in Ontario by Keep6, who also distributes DDC
-keep6 was pouring samples at the Only's Spring beer fest. unless its a treat for patrons, I assume that part of the reason for the pour was to build brand equity in Toronto
-Trou du Diable's having a night at WVRST in June. again, you usually don't randomly have a beer night in a city unless its a fun pairing or if you are trying to establish yourself in a market
so yeah...I'm thinking that we're going to have a decent Trou du Diable selection in Toronto in the near future. i doubt that includes Beuteuse, but it will likely be their other beer.

I hope you are right. Love the barrel aged La Buteuse and am keen to try more from these guys. Although, I had a couple of their beers at Vices et Versas in Montreal this past weekend and was not impressed. Hopefully not representative.
Where did you hear about the night at Wvrst? Any more info?

I hope you are right but right now there are a lot of locations in Quebec that are having issues getting Trou beers.
Depanneur Peluso, perhaps the largest volume bottle shop in Montreal, gets their stuff VERY infrequently.
Broue ha ha in Gatineau asked them if he could buy some stuff and just got laughed at because they were having troubles serving the distribution currently.
I know Ontario is a big market but for a Quebec brewery not being able to service their home province adequately makes me think shipping to another province anything other than a special one-off here or there very unlikely.

June 2. beer list not announced yet.
please re-read my original post. think i cover most of what you point out in my post. with their new volume, they'll be able to handle increased distribution.cfrancis wrote:I hope you are right but right now there are a lot of locations in Quebec that are having issues getting Trou beers.

But is the increased production enough to supply Quebec properly or is it over that which will allow them entry into other provinces?atomeyes wrote:I know Ontario is a big market but for a Quebec brewery not being able to service their home province adequately makes me think shipping to another province anything other than a special one-off here or there very unlikely.cfrancis wrote:I hope you are right but right now there are a lot of locations in Quebec that are having issues getting Trou beers.

I'd love more access to their beer. It's so freaking hard to get it right now.

The increased production is true. But does it necessarily mean increased barrel aging capacity? Maybe, maybe not. I'd say probably not. So expect 500ml bottles of normal Buteuse, Amere Indienne, Scheive Tabarnak, Grivoise de Noel, and probably a slew of their regulars at the pub.
I expect the same kind of increase that Dieu du Ciel! showed also, but the special barrel aged beers... hopeful, but not holding my breath.
FYI, I saw a case of the Buteuse Spéciale when I was in Philly. Flyers fans have this available, but not Gatineau. For shame.
