Hops and Robbers - very quaffable - nice summer beer - I'll be getting more of these.

A can from the first run of Headstock - seems to be losing a little of that fresh zing.

Jacobite Ale - I'm saving some for next year, but wanted to crack one open. Still one of my malty favs...wish I'd bought a case.

This has been a success for a couple years in a row now, what are the odds it'll become a regular listing?

Forgot to mention last week Hops and Robbers in a can, at a pub on the Esplanade, I think Scotland Yard (not BierMarkt). The canning works very well and it is similar to the usual draft.

Stopped into the Judge for a pint of Ten Bitter Years, and on my way home was fortunate enough to see the Schnitzel food truck parked around the corner from my house! Now I'm about to dig into a pork schnitzel sandwich and a Mad Tom. I think Dobro Jesti call this one the Razorblade!

Inspired by Gary to blend some beer up, I made what I guess is an American Brown Ale with 2/3 Muskoka Dark and 1/3 Boneshaker.

Pretty tasty and the boneshaker makes it a little cloudy which is cool. Thanks Gary!

Half Pints Black Galaxy. Nice, but my expectations were too high based on what I had heard from others. In terms of Canadian CDA's The Nighman Cometh was superior, IMO.

Jeff, that sounds excellent and any decent APA would substitute nicely for the Boneshaker. One of the earliest if not the first American Brown Ale was Pete's Wicked Ale, the original formulation. I think it left the market at one point and came back, but not sure if the current one, if still made, had the original taste, which was a brown ale (not roasty-porter though) flavour with a leafy West Coast hop overlay to it. So the blend sounds very close to that. A special edition brown ale from Wellington County some time ago, can't recall the name, was similar in palate.

Yeah, Pete's Wicked Ale is the grandfather of modern American Browns (often called Texas Browns over a decade ago). I never tried the early products, as Gambrinus took over in the late 90's. Unfortunately they just killed the brand last year.

Back in March when it was fresh from the brewery, it was an outstanding CDA. I drank my last bottle last week, and it was just lacking that 'zing' it had first time around. Haven't tried Nightman.....but the Black Galaxy is still one of the best CDA's I've tried.

Last night at the opening of the new big beer bar (62 taps, 60 bottles) in Edmonton, MKT, had the following draught:

Alley Kat Yellow Dragon DIPA
Amber's Brewing Kenmount Road Chocolate Stout - this has never tasted so good; feels like the recipe has been tweaked with more chocolate & roast coming through.
Fuller's London Porter
St Bernardus ABT 12

Good place, but prices are far too high for my liking.

Last night, pitcher of Hop City Weisse then a couple of pints of Mad Tom at the Duke, then back to the Only for a Derniere Volonte, then out for wings and pitchers of 50. Drinking the quality spectrum...

Ahh. Was wondering if there was a little hop fade, but couldn't recall exactly when the release date was. I'll have to try it a little fresher if they ever do it again.
