National Capital Beer Week Homebrew Competition.

Post by codfishh »

The first annual National Capital Homebrewing Competition is an annual competition where competitors showcase their homebrewing prowess in an effort to win prizes, gain points towards the annual AHA National Homebrewer of the Year award, and possibly win the coveted title of Best of Show.

This competition is registered with the BJCP and the AHA and is a sanctioned competition which is expected to attract entries from across North America. Final round judging will take place on-site at the National Capital Craft Beer Festival and will be judged by both BJCP certified judges and guest celebrity judges. The announcement and presentation of Best of Show winner will take place on the main stage at the festival.

Prizes

Best of Show winner will recieve:

- Join the folks at Beau's to brew a batch of your winning beer for limited release as part of their Pro-Am Series;
- up to $500 in travel expenses, provided by Beau's
- one-night stay in Vankleek Hill, home of Beau's All Natural Brewing Co.
- dinner with the Beau's team
- $150 gift certificate to Defalco's
- Custom (and useable!) Tap Handle Best of Show Trophy
- One free entry into AHA National Homebrew Competition
Best of Class winners will receive certificates to commemorate their win, as well as a selection from thousands of dollars worth of prizes. A detailed list of prizing will be posted by mid-July.

a few important bits of info missing: what is the deadline for entry? where are entries sent? any restriction on styles or is it open to all BJCP styles? might just have to throw some entries into the ring!

http://www.nationalcapitalbeerweek.com/ ... tion=entry

The gist of it is

It's open to all styles, $6/entry
Entry window is July 16, 2012 through August 3, 2012.

Packing and Shipping

Carefully pack your entries in a sturdy box. Line the inside of your carton with a plastic trash bag. Partition and pack each bottle with adequate packaging material. Do not over pack! Write clearly: "Fragile. This Side Up." on the package. Your package should weigh less than 25 pounds. Please refrain from using "messy" packaging materials such a Styrofoam "peanuts" or pellets; please use packaging material such as bubble wrap.

Place entry forms and payment a sealed zip-top bag. Additionally, enclose your each of your bottle labels in a small zip-top bag before attaching to their respective bottles. This way it makes it possible for the organizer to identify specifically which beer has broken if there is damage during shipment.

Every reasonable effort will be made to contact entrants whose bottles have broken to make arrangements for sending replacement bottles.

It is not against any Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) regulations or federal laws to ship your entries via privately owned shipping company for analytical purposes. However, IT IS ILLEGAL TO SHIP ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES VIA THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE. Private shipping companies have the right to refuse your shipment if they are informed that the package contains glass and/or alcoholic beverages. Be aware that entries mailed internationally are often required by customs to have proper documentation. These entries might be opened and/or returned to the shipper by customs' officials at their discretion. It is solely the entrant's responsibility to follow all applicable laws and regulations.

because it was probably snipped from a US home brew contest website and not changed to say "Canada Post"? :)

Hey Everyone just wanted to send out a reminder about the submission deadlines for this competition, brewers can start submitting their beer on July 16th with entries coming no later than August 3rd.

This is a pretty new thing for Ottawa. It's only our second ever competition and we've got a big mix of new and experienced brewers entering the competition. Regardless of how you score, the feedback you get will help you become a better brewer.

We're pretty excited about it and would love to have all the Ontario homebrewers well represented.
We'd love for this to be the start of something big in Ottawa.

Thanks
Phillip.
