The GCHC this year will feature a new brewery on the scene, The Bellwoods Brewery may be the new kid, but they are no lightweight and are creating quite a buzz. Styles like Berliner Wiesse, Farmhouse IPA’s, Flanders Red, and Baltic Porters are far from common brews. They will be serving up samples of their best as they discuss the trials and triumphs of starting a brewery and making excellent beers.
Lunch will feature the Rhino’s finest, Mexican style, served with beers that compliment and contrast the varied tastes found south of the border.
Mitch Lagoy of Rohrbach Brewing Company in Upstate New York will be leading a technical segment for brewers of all levels on making quality beer and using unusual ingredients. He has been very successful with brewing Vanilla Porters and flavorful seasonal beers. He’ll also discuss the Rochester and US brewing scene and upcoming trends.
Awards for the Great Canadian Homebrew competition will also be handed out, homebrew tastings, and some special surprises.
This will be an exceptional day of beer and brewing, meeting fellow brewers and most of all having a great time.
"It will include beer and a Mexican theme lunch. There will be a time and place set aside to share homebrews."
In the past there have been door prizes and the sponsoring breweries usually bring samples. If the samples aren't enough for you, you can purchase more from the bar. It isn't a free for all drunk fest, but sometimes you need to be careful when the homebrew sampling starts depending on what people bring.

You certainly won't be in over your head. You'll meet homebrewers of various abilities and interests and get to taste some good beer. I think anyone just starting out in the hobby should come out to events like this. It is a great way to meet other brewers and share ideas and get inspired.

you're over your head if you DON'T talk to other homebrewers. you will hear things about recipes/technique and go "AHHH...i'm an idiot!". eventually, you'll be good enough that you'll head technique and think "AHHH...he's an idiot!"

Alright - I'm going to try to make it then...

Don't forget that the Great Canadian Homebrew Conference (GCHC) is taking place this coming Saturday, July 21 from 11am-5pm (doors at 10:30AM) at the Rhino Bar & Grill (1249 Queen St. West).
Be sure to register at www.homebrewers.ca for this very special event. Bellwoods Brewery from Toronto will be joining us and leading us through a tasting of their latest beers as they talk about the start-up of their new brewery on the Ossington strip.
After lunch, Mitch LaGoy of Rohrbach Brewing Company in Rochester will be giving a technical talk on using unusual ingredients in brewing.
The day will end with the awards ceremony for the "Anything Goes" 2012 Homebrew Competition and the usual fun and banter found at CABA events. Hope to see you there!
