One more thought - if people are really uninterested in buying in, there are a few bars around town (Burger Bar, Rhino) who have invested and have some of the bottles in the bars - mind you they can go for about $30, but hey...

This is one of the most bizarre controversies to hit this place in a bit.

The program is open to anyone looking to make a green investment into their company. As sort of a dividend to that investment, you get to try beer for the next three years. You don't have to have a secret society ring to get in. You don't have to know Paris Hilton. If you don't have the $300, no problem. They'll happily sell you all kinds of somewhat cheaper beer, and they won't look down their nose at you for one second about it either.

Maybe the signage could be a bit better in the cooler area, but good lord.

There's lots to like and dislike about Beau's (and any other brewery/company), but elitism and deceit are surely not applicable in any way.

I agree that it is not that big a deal, but having a sign would both prevent anyone from being irked but also promote the program.

I think anytime sales involve some sort of "special" purchasing arrangements, or are priced out of the "norm", it is nice to have the details posted somewhere (sign, menu, etc.) so that the customer can figure it out for themselves. If nothing else it avoids the awkward "Those are HOW MUCH?!?!" moments!

A few years back at a bar in Belgium they had Westvleteren 6 "available", but when we tried to order it, we went from having to order "a tasting" to finding out it required you to order about 180E worth of various Westvleteren brands and vintages. It put a negative spin on an otherwise great experience.

Like I said, I can understand a version of this discussion that goes "well kind sirs and damsels of Beau's, could you please post a pretty sign explaining why that beer is there but I cannot buy it?"

The one we got was not that one.

Anyway, I can attest first hand that the "bait and switch" that the evil buggers that run that place do works. I was there on Father's Day, and a guy in front of me tried to order one, was told he had to buy into the program. His wife paid $300 on the spot, and he walked away with two of them, plus another $200 worth of beer and merch.

Apparently, I'm not as good a father, as all I got was the free tour and a hotdog. :(
