I actually don't have a huge issue with this. There's no denying the special place that Guinness has in Ireland's culture and if the Irish want to celebrate it, good for them. We owe them a day given the bastardization of St. Patrick's Day.
That said, Alexander Keith's Birthday is a horrible, horrible thing.

Is there really that dramatic a difference between the place Guinness has in Ireland and Keith's in Nova Scotia? I actually would compare your "bastardization" of St Patty's day to what has happened to the Keith's brand in the 20 years since Labatt took it from a regional creature to a national monster.
