Spirit Tree Draught Cider at the LCBO

Post by Publican »

I was up at Spirit Tree this week and they mentioned to me that the Spirit Tree Draught (formally Pub Cider) was going to be released to the LCBO. I rang them today to ask when this was going to happen and they told me next week. I tried to look on the LCBO website but there was a Internal server error. Hope it's up soon so I can see if the LCBO has listed it and which LCBO's are carrying it. Right now I don't need any as I bought 24 bottles of the Draught cider and four of the Perry. but it's good to know that I won't have to travel to Caledon to buy bottles.

When I was at the cidery I asked if they sold kegs to the public. They do in 20 and 30 L. As well they serve cask cider from time to time at the cidery. You may want to ring them 905-838-2530 or e-mail contactus@spirittreecider.com to see when they are serving cask cider. If you can't convince someone to be the designated driver there is a Go bus stop in Caledon that is 9 miles from the cidery. You would need to get to the Brampton Go station to get a bus to Caledon. You may want to pre book a taxi to take you the rest of the way

The Spirit Tree Draught Cider is now listed on the LCBO's website but it is not in any city yet.

There is one four pack at the Yonge and Summerhill LCBO. I know it will be distributed to more LCBO's because Spirit Tree told me that

I biked up there today.

Worth noting that since it's mostly a driving destination, they serve rather small portions. Seems like a sensible thing to do. The glasses are about 5-6 ozs for about 4.5 bucks.

If DD isn't an option, I'd say most folks would be able to have a glass or two and still be ok to drive.

The sandwiches are pricey but delicious.

I thought it was good that they were smaller glasses given how utterly drinkable the stuff is...It's a great place. Plus, they have some Lodi apples in the store right now...an early summer variety, and it looks like it'll be a good year for fruit, finally!

You seem very excited for this product.

How does it compare to other pub ciders?

I had it at the Guelph local food fest about a month ago. They had the apelager and the pub cider there. Its been awhile since I've had cider - but the pub cider was better than Magners and Strong bow. The apelager was great - and low abv (about 3), so you'd have no problems having quite a few.

But is the pub cider worth $14 for 4? I'd find that hard to justify.

can't compare.

this is a funky cider, and i mean that in a good way. very dry, like wine, but almost feels like it has some Orval bretty character in it.
it is the only cider i'll drink.
may even buy some at that crazy high price.

Yes it is very dry although not as dry as Twin Pines Hammer Bent Original from Thedford (near Sarnia) although that is not available at the LCBO. I had it at a cider tasting at a friends place. Fot those Bartowelers in the London area, Twin Pines are going to be at the Forrest city Beer Festival today

Anyone know if West Avenue has any plans to get their cider into the LCBO?

Not right away, but I believe they may pitch it next year.
