Bottle dates on the ABT 12 at the lcbo

Post by spinrsx »

Bought some of the St. Bernardus ABT 12 at the lcbo.. I've been over every inch of the bottle and cannot find a date. Any else buy some of this and have a date on theirs? I assume it was brewed in 2013?

should be a 'best before' date in format YY MM DD on the label. Check the cork and the bottom of the bottle too.

If you find it, 'best before' date is 5 years out from bottling date.

The date is on the top of the cage and is difficult to read. I don't have a bottle handy, but it was definitely bottled this year, I believe in May (the BB date is 2018).

I don't believe St. Bernie are in the business of cellaring their beers. :) So iI'd guesa the newly-arrived Abt 12 was shipped fresh, and you could pencil a '2013' on the label for future sake.

It's on the hood. 17 05 18. So bottled May 18, 2012 supposedly.

Oh I see it now, thanks. 17 05 18 would be May 2013 by my math

Pretty sure we're using the same math, it's just that we're interpreting the BB date differently. As I understand it, they use a YY MM DD format, which would put the BB year at 2017. They date the BB 5 years out from bottling. 2017-5=2012. But who knows, maybe it's DD MM YY. Either way, you've got time on your side with that bottle..

I checked the code on a different bottle: it's DD MM YY.
Here's to the slow path.

Yeah mine are def DD MM YY.

This is fairly easy to tell with a few bottles. The last 2 digits are ALWAYS 18 on mine, so that would be the year (least variable portion of a datestamp is the year).

The middle 2 digits are 05 for all of mine as well. Could be day OR month.

The first 2 digits on two different bottles are: 17 and 24. This automatically makes it the Day (most variable portion of the datestamp and 2 digit numbers > 12).
