Grocery Gateway gifts customers with new options from the Beer Store
TORONTO, Dec. 10, 2013 /CNW/ - Grocery Gateway and the Beer Store celebrate the Holiday season by introducing 60 new brands of beer available for online ordering and home delivery. Starting December 10th, Grocery Gateway customers will have access to a wider selection of fine craft beers to excite the taste buds of guests and beer enthusiasts.

Grocery Gateway customers can order from the Beer Store's extensive selection of craft, imported and premium beer brands to satisfy their unique tastes. Customers can enjoy the ease of party planning and the convenience of having Longo's fresh groceries and chilled beers delivered right to their doors.

"We know that the holidays are one of the busiest seasons of the year for entertaining and our goal is to ease the stress and reduce the time it takes to shop for your food and beverage needs," said Rosanne Longo, Longo's Spokesperson and Brand Ambassador "Starting this holiday season, Grocery Gateway is partnering with the Beer Store to make entertaining easier and more enjoyable. Expanding our offering allows customers to choose from a variety beers to suit any occasion and palette," added Longo.

Residents in the GTA, Kitchener, Waterloo and Guelph regions that place online orders before 7 p.m. can expect fast, convenient delivery the next day. There's a minimum Grocery Gateway order of $45.00 before alcohol, and a $9.95 delivery charge for all orders.

Not bad...Mill St, Steamwhistle, Muskoka....

And a 12-pack of Lug Tread??? That seems odd.

I think it's a pretty poor selection, actually - especially considering that they were already delivering Steam Whistle and Mill St. before this deal with the Beer Store was announced.

I think what annoys me most is the fact that the first paragraph of the press release refers to a "wider selection of fine craft beers", when the selection being offer contains very few craft beers. Even if you include Creemore and Sam Adams, maybe 1/3rd of the products could be considered "craft".

If anything, this just proves that "craft" is joining "local", "artisanal" and "all-natural" in the list of food and drink descriptors that are losing their meaning due to be co-opted by the big corporations.

Personally I think the term "craft" lost its meaning when people tried to give it a definition that didn't factor in whether or not a beer was actually well crafted? I mean can anyone argue that Trafalgar makes a more well crafted beer than Creemore does? Yet one is considered an Ontario craft beer and bears a seal and the other doesn't. To me that fact alone proves the term "craft" is just a marketing term.
