Big news announced yesterday regarding MacLean's:

https://twitter.com/bryanbossin/status/ ... 7819816960
https://twitter.com/JeffLeal_MPP/status ... 9850889217

Since I am (somewhat) privy to what's transpiring I can tell you that F&M will no longer be making MacLean's Pale Ale once this operation is up and running. As you can see from the photos there is a new MacLean's logo (complete new branding actually), and the MacLean's Pale Ale in the 500ml bottle that's listed at roughly 6 stores will be getting much larger distribution.
I used to sell beer. Now I don't.

I had a beer with Charles a few years ago in the Wooly in Guelph. A mutual friend that used to work at Wellington was talking to him @ the bar, and he piped up when I ordered a half of Wellington best bitter. Very interesting guy. I seem to remember him saying that he helped start up Wellington brewery and that the original recipes were his? I also remember him mentioning starting up his own microwbrewery in the Hannover area.(i only remember that because the wife's parents have a farm there) I have to admit that i took it with a grain of salt, and thought it was a bit of a pipe dream. Good on him. Wishing him the best of luck and hope to get to try more of his beers. I will make sure to get to the brewery, as I'm in the area quite often.

Yes, Charles was the first brewmaster at Wellington in 1985, and the original SPA, Best Bitter and County Dark recipes were his, but of course they've changed over the years.

Here's a little article I did for Pub Magazine in 2011 when I worked for him: http://www.tradersforum.ca/pubmagazine/ ... 06_web.pdf Jump to pdf page 37. It gives a bit of his history and of the little brewery is has now, which will stop production at the end of this month I believe.
