Ecuador - Quito and Beyond

Post by El Pinguino »

Finally got around to going over my beer information from Ecuador.

First thing: Ecuador has a very fast growing craft beer scene with multiple small craft breweries starting up in the past year or so.

Second thing: Distribution and awareness of these beers is still very low.

Places to check in Quito for craft beer and anything local besides Pilsener or Club. Some have websites, some are Facebook only.
- Brau Platz
- Mulligans
- Turtle's Head
- Cherusker

Turtle's Head and Cherusker have their own beers. Brau Platz and Mulligans serve draft beer from other Ecuadorian craft brewers.

What to look for:
Cerveza Umiña, Roche’s Brewery and Montañita Brewing Company.

As of my recent visit you can only get Umina via online shop delivery, so I didn't sample but their styles and flavours are definitely interesting - Blackberry Belgian Tripel for example.

If you want more of a recap of beers in Ecuador...my summary here:

A Peru beer summary coming soon.

In case any one is heading to Ecuador....a lot has changed. The places I mentioned in this original post are barely among the top places to visit now, except for Brau Platz.

"La Estacion" and "Bandido Brewing" are likely the two best places in Quito, Ecuador to find a good selection of local craft beers.

I've compiled a list of breweries in Ecuador as well, at the link below. Currently at 40 breweries:

Cheers!
