Come on man, those are AWESOME pictures!
the ironic 1980s photo style was funny circa Napoleon Dynamite. we've come a long way since then.

Check out that gushing description and perfect score from first-time rater "steelpeat"! (I'm assuming no relation to the founding Peat brothers, of course.)
And both founding brothers regularly check in to their beer on Untappd to give it 5 star reviews.

Rating one's own beer is pathetically unethical. Another reason to not bother with them.

Meh, Anyone who can poke fun at themselves or the craft brewing community (especially the hipster component) deserves a miniscule bit of kudo's. On the plus side, neither of them was sporting a monocle so they didn't go full out douche in the pictures.

Agree with AWCY on rating your own beers though. That puts me off the brewer far more than ironic pictures or a somewhat droll website. (the trumpeting of this brewing outfit reminds me an awful lot of the spearhead marketing team actually!) I'll rate the beer based on it's own merits, but doesn't really sound like something I'd go out of my way to seek out.

I was surprised nobody brought up the Danforth Brewery article from BlogTO yesterday.

Also, Sweetgrass Hired Stephen Rich to be their new brewmaster and are opening up a pub at Coxwell and Gerrard. Add in Louis Cifer and that's 4 breweries or brewpubs East of the DVP by next year.

well, danforth brewery's just a contract brewery. it could be named after a city in Europe for all we care (oh, whoops!) but it has nothing to do with the Danforth.

this city's gone full retard when it comes to naming breweries after neighbourhoods.

At least it seems a step or three beyond that fake Parkdale brewery.

Still... rather ripped off Brooklyn Brewery's logo.

I can see the desire to try to tap in a built in market by positioning yourself as the neighbourhooid's "official" brewery, but damn if it doesn't reek of "we couldn't think of a good name!"

Bellwoods, sorta.

But isn't that a pretty common thing? Like, take NYC:

Brooklyn
Sixpoint
Staten Island Brewing Co
Rockaway Brewing Co
Chelsea Brewing
City Island
Bronx Brewery
Gun Hill

It's like a brewery in a smaller town or city naming itself after that place. Inevitable.

I'm staying away from the Jane/Finch brewing company and Malvern brewing myself.

Oddly enough, I have heard of Longslice. I had their beer on draught in Downtown T.O. at some point mid-late last year.

It was a pretty bad fucking beer.

My one and only encounter with Longslice was with the Hopsta at the now-defunct Huntsman Tavern on College in November of last year. It was unremarkable, neither bad nor good. It came in a branded glass if I recall correctly.

i wouldn't use New York as the best reference point for anything beer related. for a city of it's size and power, it's certainly not a big muscle flexor for most things beer related (including bars, although that's changed in the past year).

How about California breweries? I can only really think of Lagunitas off the top of my head.
