Where is my Maudite, Unibroue?

Post by El Pinguino »

I miss the days when I could go grab a big corked/caged bottle of Maudite at the LCBO.

But it seems that the days of buying any Maudite in Ontario have disappeared, and perhaps my beloved Trois Pistoles is on the way out too...

I was about to dust off my Beer Store giftcard and go buy a 6-pack of Maudite and a 6-pack of Trois Pistoles. The only reason I visit the Beer Store.

Well, apparently, even TBS stopped carrying 6-packs of Trois Pistoles and Maudite. For Maudite, you're screwed unless you want a keg.

SOB, so now there is nowhere in Ontario to buy bottles of Maudite?

These were always the best deal / only deal at the commie union redneck attitude Beer Store.

In fact when Unibroue sold sixes they were a steal, then they went to four-packs in their stronger beers.

That's because when you drink a couple of "strong" beers you're an alcoholic but its ok to sell a 30 pack of Bud "light"

Don't really know, maybe UB went to some four-packs to keep an attractive shelf price while making a profit.

You should rightly find this amazing. Unibroue was such an early high achiever - and their good stuff still stands up well. Opening 750mls of Blanche De Chambly and FIn Du Monde was a staggering experience in the later 1990s. Major beer moment.

just got back from the maple ave, milton beer store with a 4 pack of Maudite and Trois Pistoles. despite the TBS website only displaying Maudite keg info and saying the location had zero 3P. that store is the kind with the counter that you order at, so i asked if they had either beer, he looked them up and said yes. came back with a 4 pack of each, which for $10 has to be one of the best beer values in ontario.

i asked if there was lots left in the back, he said "yeah, no one ever buys that" LOL

so there's still some out there, more likely at the counter stores than the ones where you can walk into the cooler

Crappiest product management for their best items. My TBS experience too. They are like a retarded Beer Mafia.

Speaking of crap product management and Unibroue. I went into a KGBO store on Thursday that showed the new variety 6-packs in stock. They searched high and low but could not find them. Manager goes into the office and finds the shipment manifest. Sure enough, the qty was circled as not received on the truck but no one bothered to fix the computer inventory to remove them. Three days later, the store still shows they have them!

Similar situation has happened to me in the past (worked in retail 20 yrs ago when computer systems weren't what they are today). Running a private retail shop I did my best to keep the customer from getting completely pissed off - I offered to find the product and call them as soon as it came into the store. Today, I would have gone a step further and offered to ship the product to them when it came in - no extra charge. LCBO being a monopoly doesn't give a shit how far I drove to buy ghost inventory. They just shrugged their shoulders, said "sorry about that" and continued doing their "business".

(if they don't fix the problem, the store will get hit with the shrink next time they do inventory, idiots!)
