Oskar Blues G’Knight Imperial Red IPA. Exceptional. A beer that is beautifully balanced between the malt and the hops. IMO this is something more beers in the DIPA category should strive for. A truly great beer.

I really enjoy the beer as well, on the few occassions I’ve seen it. A pretty good bargain as well as far as I’m concerned.

Sculpin IPA W/ Grepefruit - better than I remembered it, nice hop emphasis

Fresh As Helles - Sam Adams thing with orange blossom - like drinking 4711 Cologne Water? Ehh, glad it's gone.

Godspeed Svetly Lezak 12ª - my last one, need to take home more GS (Kölsch, Tmave 12º, Dortmunder, Keller) & also try the newly-released American IPA on tap: EDIT the Yamayama is also available in cans, very nice somewhere between old-school AIPA and a British style, full of nice bitter herbal hop character and delicious malt profile.

Also: Tmave Lezak 12 is down to just a few cans - but Svetly Lezak 12 in cans is on it's way back in a day or two! 'The best batch ever' according to the fellow manning the can store today.

Having a Mikkeller Peter Pale & Mary - super nice sessionable APA at the LCBO! 473 ml cans.

Image

It's contracted by Muddy York over near St. Clair and O'Connor but it tastes like any great brew made overseas by... Mikkel. This fills a niche for me for sure!

(Anybody been to Muddy York taproom, I never have! I may need to very soon.)

Pretty sure it's actually contracted to Brunswick Brewery, just around the corner from Muddy York. They do a lot of the local brews of Euro breweries, and even brew a few for Muddy York and other local breweries who need volume on contract. Both locations are nice spots to grab a drink.

Lokal Dusseldorf Altbier. Don't do it, it was just plain bad. Too sweet, thin, metallic and it had a very off-putting sour/barnyard aroma going on. A little digging suggests it's a separately branded Old Tomorrow offshoot. It's too bad, took a chance since I love altbier and no one has one regularly available at the LCBO.

Oh well, I have had some good beers as of late:

-Sons of Kent 8 Track XPA: Really nice, pleasantly surprised. Hazy, fruit, citrus, soft bitterness. Not breaking any new ground, but slots into my Canuck/Clutch/Golden Beach rotation nicely.

-Collective Arts Guava Gose: Found this one in a short can 4-pack at my local Superstore; pretty stoked by that find as it's probably my favourite local gose. It's a fruit bomb which I don't always love but this one works for me.

-Alchemist Heady Topper: Finally, thanks to a generous friend. It's good, really good. Super dank, hazy, hoppy goodness- the O.G. (or GOAT, whatever the kids are saying nowadays). That said, I think we've got local breweries who can hold their own. It's a great time to be a beer fan.

Also did a bit of Haliburton and area beer touring while at a cottage, checked out Haliburton Highlands and Boshkung. Not bad, not great kinda places, but again it's nice to have some fresh beer choices since the LCBO/Beer Stores in the region don't have the best selection. Ended up liking Blueline Blond from HH as a dock crusher. Boshkung's Dark Ale in a growler was a nice one to sip by the fire. Not a hazy IPA or sour in sight at those two places (said tongue-in-cheek), they're definitely going for a more conservative crowd, which probably makes sense.

It actually using the same LCBO SKU as the Old Tomorrow Track 85 Altbier... Not sure if it's a new beer replacing the old, or a simply a rebrand. The entire "United Craft" company is one big marketing jumble.

Yea, it just seems to be an umbrella company for a bunch of average at best contract brews. I guess these sorts of re-brandings are smart though; make money off of the renewed interest people have in trying a new beer, once they realize it's not great and sales fade, just re-brand again!

Went to Henderson last weekend (and some other breweries). Motivation was rooted in my beer can collecting hobby (or perhaps I should describe it as a habit) to pick up their Pipeline Moe Hefeweizen.

If you are a golf fan at all, the Moe Norman story is fascinating. Sad too. I saw him play once a few decades ago, but wasn't able to fully appreciate his story and abilities at the time.

As for the beer, this style is not one that I've ever loved, but I don't mind having one now and again. I found this one very nice, light and refreshing.

A troubled but savant like striker of the golf ball, apparently on the level of Ben Hogan in the consistency and accuracy of his contact. Some say he was the greatest striker of the ball who ever lived. A legend among older pros but relatively unknown among the general public. It’s been suggested that he had some syndrome within the autism spectrum. If you watch video footage, there is definitely something different at work with Moe.

I twice enjoyed the new Hefeweizen at Godspeed, vivid color and great flavour.

Aroma could be slightly more to it perhaps, yet still a great early batch & the KaiZen is strong in this brewery. The Kölsch seems really dialled in and I like the full aromas.
