I would appreciate some feedback on 3 new beers from Brick.
All new recipe Pilsner, Amber and Honey Red. Released 2 weeks ago, many are probably unaware as of yet.
Beer is being shipped throughout Ontario, samples and product available at the brewery in Waterloo.

I tried the Amber and Honey Red at the OCB event at Summerhill last week, and I found them both to be much improved over the beers they've replaced in the Brick line-up. The Honey Red was a particular surprise, as I rarely expect much from honey beers (in Ontario, at least, since it tends to be more of a sales gimmick here than anything else). I'm looking forward to trying the Pilsner soon.

The JRB Pilsner just received Gold in Ontario and Silver in Canada; European Style Lager (Pilsner) category.

Brick, can you give us some production data?

Is the amber an ale? How is honey used in the Honey Red?

What kind of hops are going into the Pilsner, what kind of profile are you looking for there?

Are there plans at Brick to launch further new beers?

What is the future of your Andechser licensing agreement, and/or making their beers? Not to threadjack but I'm quite interested.

PS: if you really want our feedback why not meet a bunch of us somewhere & split up a few cases of these three, that we may all sample at home? I have so much summer-friendly beer crowding up the cellar right now, I can't be running out to buy three twelve-packs in the immediate future. Just a thought.

PPS: Props to you for releasing new products, I'd love to try 'em & am a real fan of buying good, locally made beer.

The new beers are available in six-packs.

I picked up a sixer of the Pils this morning and had one with lunch. It's very nice - beautiful golden colour, strong hop profile, very flavourful. It's up there with King and Stonehammer as far as locally made beers in this style go. A great beer for the first summery day of the year...

I havent tried either yet but I am curious. Are they on tap anywhere in Toronto or only in bottles? How different is the new Honey Red from the one that was available previously?

1) Honey Red Lager..very good, malty, sweet without being cloying...can actually taste honey...and nicely hopped...I buy it regularly for my Dad who says it's the first real beer he's tasted in years and I drink it myself occasionally...and I don't normally like honey beers

2) Amber lager...very very good...malty, sharp spicey hop character very drinkable...a standard quaff for me now...well done ( BTW with Creemore's dumbing down their lager's malt profile, this has replaced it in my fridge)

3) Pilsner; Awesome!! One of the 2 best I've tasted from an Ontario micro Brewer and certainly the equal of my beloved King Pilsner. I think I like the Brick a tad better than King because it is slightly more malt pronounced...and every time I buy it, it's FRESH!

Suggestion: Date code the beer and keep all available supplies fresh and within their best before date ( 30 days?)....this is good drinkable beer when it's fresh Brick Man... I'm impressed.......particularly as I have a local made micro German pilsner that I don't have to drive to TO or Hamilton to buy. 8)

Further suggestion: Perhaps a founder's series Marzen or bock??...Please!

Final suggestion ; And don't you dare dumb down the malts on these great drinkable beers!!

Wotta guy, POOTZ. Real info!

Now I want to try these. They all sound like enjoyable beers you can also sneak on your friends without them knowing it's 'real beer.'

Oh and the Beer Store website is a real pain.... would the Queen's Quay be a reliable? Where do you guys generally find the freshest stock?

Thanks for the input Pootz. I will stop by the brewery this week for the Pilsner. Does it compare favourably to Stone Hammer?

I think anyone who appreciates a well made malty staright forward real lager will like these. I love them and I have not been Brick's greatest supporter in the past. Better than Stone hammer IMHO but I like malty beers.

411...I was making more than $10.00/hr at "The Brewers Retail" in the late '80s. That qualifies as being paid well enough to have a little more than a clue IMO.
