Hawai'i brewpubs or micros

Post by crawler »

Any recommendations for the islands of Hawai'i?

I know of Kona Brewing in Kailua-Kona (Big Island), but will be spending most of my time in Honolulu (Oahu) visiting family, so am curious to see what else local I can sample, either in pubs or from the local grocery store.

I was in Honolulu in early 2003, and wrote up the following beer/travel report:

I expect that a few things might have changed since then, but it's a start.

I was there in 2006 and was happy to find Gordon Biersh Marzen was on tap at my hotel in addition to several of the Kona offerings! Spaten - Optimator and Oktoberfest were found at a local grocery store, however, it was more common to see a bunch of good west coast beers available at most grocery/convenience/drug store (one of my faves being the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale). The Kona prodcuts were also on tap at many bars and hotels in the area of Waikiki.

We were also on Maui and would highly recommend the Maui Brewing Company (if in the Ka'anapali area) as they had about 14 different in house offerings, most pretty good. And we also were in Kaui where we had a lunch and a few pints at the Waimea Brewing Co.

Looks like I'm making my first trip to Hawaii in August. Large family vacation to Maui. The only places I can find there appear to be the aformentioned Maui Brewing and Brewpub in Ka'anapali and some Irish pub in Wailea. Since we'll be in Kihei both are not that far (one 45 mins north, the other about 10 minutes south). Just curious if anyone has been there recently and discovered a new place?
I don't always piss in a bottle but when I do...I prefer to call it Dos Equis.

This place in Honolulu has just been on Diners, Drive-in's and Dives.

Tap list looks half decent.

Shame it's not on the island I'm visiting.

i was in honolulu for work this past october and prepared this map: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8& ... fe8e3&z=11

For bottles, The Liquor Collection is good but on the way to Alan Wong's one night, I came across the Wine Stop and found their selection be be much better. For pints the Yardhouse is convenient if your are staying in Waikiki. If you're going out to Hanauma Bay then a stop at Kona Brewing is a must.
