Hey Jesse, what did you think of the Trafalgar 3 pack? I tried it and found that all three seemed to taste the exact same to me. The off flavour was so overpowering that I could taste nothing else. I have tried several of the Elora brand and have not had a bad experience with them. The Strong Ale pack was utterly undrinkable. I think I have only dumped two bottles of beer in my life and one was from that three pack.

Tonight I am starting the long weekend off well... some Brutal Bitter and a Bitter & Twisted. I polished off the last of my Church Key West Coast yesterday and am still craving the hop blast. Thank goodness for the Brutal Bitter. I've not tried the Harviestoun yet but based on some of the reviews I have read I am looking forward to it.

Started the weekend off with a couple of half pints of Urthel Hop It at Volo. Pretty wicked stuff.

Shoulda just had a pint like me! Added to that Publican Stonewall (a nice Irish Dry Stout) and my first doppel hirsch (sweet, caramel, bready).

I highly recommend the Hop-It - an excellent Belgian IPA!

You are absolutely bang-on in your sentiments towards the Trafalgar nightmare of an X-mas giftpack, and not in a cool Tim Burton-esque X-Mas nightmare way, in an oh-my-f***ing-god this is so horrifyingly awful and why is Santa beating his reindeer with an empty bottle of Rye kind of nightmare way (okay, maybe that's a little too dramatic :P).

Was this whole gift pack an elaborate and sinister joke? I mean, seriously? The bottle labels are so obviously cardboard cut outs (cut out poorly by hand I might add), and the 'beer' contained in each were near identical to eachother with differences so minor you might miss them while you're gagging on the floor as if a chlorine gas cannister exploded near you.

When I mention 'pen ink' or 'wet computer paper' as aroma/flavour characteristics, does anyone know what I mean? It's how I perceive that weird unnatural aspect that accompanies many 12%+ abv brews, Dogfish Head World Wide Stout has it big time. It's like, if you ever sucked out the contents of an almost empty ink cartridge, this must be what it would taste like. Absolutely horrendous. This has to be a joke, I mean, I know it's Trafalgar and all, but come on.

Also had the Urthel and was lucky enough to get a pint before the bartenders were told half pints only!!!! It certainly didn't drink like a 9+% beer. And the Stonewall was a great stout. Really like what the Publican is putting out at the moment; giving Grand River a real good run for their money.

Bobsy, I would have said Hi if I'd know it was you at the bar in Volo tonight. Always good to meet a fellow Anglophile. Maybe next time you're there, and I'll get you a pint.

You're on, Sid. I was actually right behind you for a while, but a good moment to butt in never arose. I also had the misfortune of having to return home to my inlaws. The pint of urthel definitely took off the edge.

Let me state this again for you guys incase anyone missed it: TRY THE URTHEL!!!

Loved the Urthel too. Until the Delirium ran out, Ralph was also offering a very interesting taster option of Urthel, Mill St Betelgeuse and Delirium Tremens. Urthel was the clear favourite for me, though others liked the Mill St. Delirium seemed to be third in everyone's books, a bit of a surprise.

Started the day off at the in-laws with a beer-mimosa (using Brussels White) from the Beer Bistro cookbook. Damn good with breakfast.

Beer mimosa is nice. I enjoy normal ones too in the early AM.

BTW - I'm pretty sure Volo is the only place in Toronto that Urthel is on tap.

If not all of Ontario. Sometimes I really wish I lived in Toronto.

Weltenburger Kloster Asam Bock. MAN am I going to miss this stuff if it doesn't return next year :( . I'll pay the fines to the LCBO packaging gestapo if I have to for whatever trivial detail they find unsuitable in this product's box or whatever.

I'm even more excited to try my 3-pack now. With such low expectations I'm probably going to love it. Or maybe it just needs to beaged a it...
