for it to survive, you need to have 5 of them, plus 5 other growlers in the car on the way downmjohnston wrote:Grub, I picked one of those (CBJS) up on the way down to DLD tooAgreed, very tasty, although mine did not survive the trip home.

we had one of those plus 4 other growlers from detroit beer co and a ton of bottles for sharing. just never quite got around to the CBJS. sure was nice on the patio on monday though.
We were really lucky stopping at Kuhnhenn... we met the brewers' dad, who hooked us up with some bottles of the Eisbock and samples of what he said was bourbon barrel 5th dementia (which isn't on ratebeer so I'm wondering if it was the 4th) that's been sitting in the barrel since 2005. Faaaantastic.
If anyone ever gets the chance to check out Kuhnhenn, do so. Great beer, really friendly staff, and excited to receive people making the effort to get there from out of town/country.

yeah, kuhnhenn is a fun stop. i try to pop in anytime i'm in the area, and it's a must-stop for our DLD trip each year. their stuff is like trading gold!
i hope they do more barrel-aged releases. the last time they did was at the '06 solstice party, and they were all pretty insane. the bourbon barrel 4th dementia and bourbon barrel barleywine are up there as some of my favourite beers ever.
it could have been BB5th that you tried - they released a tiny bit of regular 5th dementia at the '08 solstice party, but it sold out almost instantly. maybe the rest is in a barrel? or maybe they still have stuff from the last big barrel aged release sitting in barrels? that would be pretty neat, though i'd wonder if the barrel character would have taken over by now.
